The Arizona Game and Fish Department offers paid internship opportunities to current students graduate and undergraduate. Recent (within the past year) graduates are also eligible to apply. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on practical work experience while working with a diverse group of professionals in the fields of wildlife science biological science wildlife management and many other professions within the Department.
Student interns are hired on a temporary basis and paid an hourly rate of $16.50. Interns are not benefit eligible and work at the discretion of the appointing authority. Interns may be employed through their approved assignment or the department determines that the work is no longer required. Assignments are typically full-time unless indicated by the hiring supervisor.

(3) BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION INTERN (40 hours/WK)
Join the Arizona Game and Fish Departments Boating Safety Education Program and help promote safe responsible recreation on Arizonas waterways. This field-focused role supports powerboating kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding safety education across the state including the Phoenix metro area. Youll work directly with the public through classroom instruction on-water demonstrations and outreach events designed to increase awareness of boating and paddlesport safety.
This is a field-intensive position with 65-85% of time spent in the field requiring travel and weekend work. The position is based at the AZGFD Headquarters in Phoenix (5000 W Carefree Hwy). Full-time schedule of 40 hours per week typically with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. This is a temporary position running from May 18 2026 through September 11 2026.
This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy outdoor work public education and making a positive impact on water safety across Arizona
(1) WILDLIFE VIEWING PROGRAM INTERN (20-29 hours/WK)
Description of Duties: The Wildlife Viewing Intern will assist the Wildlife Viewing team with the delivery of in-person wildlife viewing public events and may assist in the planning and research of wildlife based content for workshops and webinars. Additionally the intern will assist with the delivery of wildlife viewing programming. Most duties will be done in an outdoor in-person public-facing capacity. Intern should have a passion for wildlife education and conservation. The individual should possess the initiative and desire to learn and participate in all prescribed duties. The internship is a part time internship (20-29 hours/wk). The position will work out of the Phoenix Headquarters office and is set to run 5/18/26 - 8/14/26. A post-offer physical exam will be required for this position.
Required/Preferred skills: Attention to detail strong reading writing and wildlife research skills team player possess initiative and follow directions ability to work flexible schedule including weekends ability to work in extreme temperatures and a general understanding of Arizona wildlife.

Description of Duties: The Licensing Intern will work out of the Phoenix Headquarters office and is set to run 5/18/26 - 8/14/26. Join our team for a valuable professional development opportunity. This Monday through Friday internship provides hands-on experience in office operations within a professional government agency setting. Youll receive comprehensive training before contributing to meaningful projects both independently and as a collaborative team member building essential workplace skills and a strong foundation.

Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of curriculum leading towards a Bachelors or higher level degree on a full time basis (usually 12 semester hours) and pursuing a major in Wildlife Biology or closely related field applicable to the internship opportunity (subject to verification)
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above
Valid drivers license (free of restrictions if applicable)
Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination (if applicable)
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).
