About the Role

Life Without Barriers are looking for Youth Mentors to work with young people in our Specialist Foster Care and CARE School Retention Mentoring programs across the Adelaide regions.

Mentors work with the young people (who range in age between 8 17 years old) assisting them in a range of ways by modelling and establishing positive relationships with peers and adults; and modelling appropriate behaviours in terms of interpersonal interaction life skills employment education and leisure.

Our mentoring sessions occur either after school or on weekends (there may be some flexibility during school holidays). Weekend penalties apply time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays.

Please note: This role is being offered as casual position (minimum 3 hours per week available) however we cannot guarantee hours every week.

We are looking to find mentors specifically located in Northern and Southern Adelaide and the Victor Harbour area.

Key Responsibilities

Mentors are carefully matched to a child or young person via a range of areas including personality interests and hobbies skill base as well as matching to gender and location.

Mentors are an important part of the care team that supports children and young people under the Guardianship of the Chief Executive living in foster care and residential care by assisting them in a range of ways:

  • Modelling and establishing positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Providing pathways or linkages to increased opportunities with education employment and community connections
  • Accessing and facilitating recreational and sporting activities


Essential requirements:

  • Cert III in Child Youth Family or Community Services field or relevant life experience.
  • A current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain before commencement.
  • Current Safe Environments Through Their Eyes certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement).
  • A current Australian drivers licence (P2 or above)
  • Reliable & roadworthy vehicle with insurance (Third Party Property at a minimum)

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check NDIS Check and South Australian Working with Children Check
