JOB TITLE: Interpreter II Mill City Museum

COMPENSATION: Typical starting rate$20.22 hourly
STATUS & HOURS: This is a part-time regular position of approximately 780 annual hours. A typical schedule is 15 hours/week year round Saturdays and Sundays. Some evenings weekends or holidays may also be expected based on business need.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to engage educate and entertain Mill City Museum visitors and present lessons to school groups using a variety of interpretive and performance techniques to communicate a depth of historical information.
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Deliver program content using a variety of interpretive and performance techniques that reach diverse audiences and participate in daily operations of the museum; 2) Deliver more in depth school and youth programs; 3) Present specialized interpretive programs and conduct directed research for assigned programs; and 4) Serve as a mentor to new staff and volunteers as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience and ability to provide consistent quality customer service.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse public in a friendly and open manner while conveying information or teaching.
Strong oral communication skills and ability to listen and be responsive to questions and comments.
Ability to adapt program presentations and lessons to best suit the needs of visitors based on situations that arise including late arrivals special visitor needs teacher inquiries and visitor inquiries.
Proven skill in delivering programs as an Interpreter I at Mill City Museum.
Experience in or willingness to learn computer software programs as needed.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute positively in a team environment.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to kneel crouch reach bend push and pull to perform interpretive and operational duties.
Flexibility to work a varied schedule of weekdays weekends and evening hours
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with children and/or adults in an educational environment.
Experience in teaching museum interpretation theater storytelling or group leadership.
Knowledge of museum education or teaching practices.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse audiences with varying cultural backgrounds ages and abilities.
Familiarity with U.S. history.
