THE ROLE
The Legal Assistant supports lawyers across the firm in delivering high-quality legal services.
Key responsibilities include:
Conduct legal research to support case strategies
Draft proofread and edit legal documents memos and correspondence
Organize and manage case files ensuring documents are accurately filed and accessible
Communicate with clients lawyers and court officials
Maintain lawyer calendars including meetings court dates and deadlines
File legal documents with courts and administrative bodies in compliance with applicable rules
Prepare trial materials including exhibits and binders
Manage electronic filing systems and legal databases
Provide general administrative support including billing and file management
Conduct conflict checks and maintain strict confidentiality
Stay informed about relevant changes in laws and court procedures
Provide backup support to other assistants and contribute positively to team operations
Perform other duties and projects as required
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 2 years of experience preferably in litigation
Strong understanding of legal terminology
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with iManage
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
Strong attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with court registries and filing procedures
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Experience working with Indigenous Nations and their members is preferred
COMPENSATION
The annual salary range for this position is $60000 to $85000.
Compensation within this range will be determined based on experience skills qualifications and internal equity considerations.
