Job Summary
Job Title: Machinist
Department: Maintenance / Workshop
Reporting to: Mechanical Engineer / Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Qatar
Job Purpose:
To perform precision machining fabrication and repair of mechanical components and equipment to support maintenance and operation activities within the plant. The machinist ensures the reliability and operational efficiency of rotating and static equipment through accurate machining and fitting work.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain various machine tools such as lathe milling drilling shaping and grinding machines to fabricate or repair parts.
Perform precision machining on shafts bushings couplings impellers and other mechanical components as per drawings or samples.
Inspect measure and verify dimensions of machined components using precision measuring instruments (vernier calipers micrometers dial gauges etc.).
Conduct repair and modification work on pumps valves and rotating equipment parts as required by the maintenance team.
Read and interpret engineering drawings sketches and technical specifications.
Perform balancing fitting and alignment work on mechanical assemblies.
Ensure all machining operations adhere to safety and quality standards.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the machine shop ensuring proper storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Coordinate with mechanical technicians and engineers to support preventive and corrective maintenance jobs.
Record and report completed machining works materials used and any deviations observed.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Diploma or ITI in Machining / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Experience: Minimum 35 years of experience as a Machinist preferably in an industrial plant utility or water treatment facility.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in operating conventional machining equipment.
Knowledge of machining tolerances and surface finishes.
Basic understanding of welding fitting and mechanical assembly.
Familiar with workshop safety procedures and tool handling.
