Senior Research Engineer 3GPP & Connected Mobility

Are you a visionary in wireless communications looking to define the standards of future mobility We are seeking a Senior Research Engineer to lead our efforts in 3GPP standardization and connected vehicle research. Based in the heart of Silicon Valley you will represent the cutting edge of 5G/6G integration into the automotive ecosystem ensuring that connected mobility is safe seamless and standardized on a global scale.

What Youll Do (Responsibilities)

You will serve as a technical diplomat and lead researcher bridging the gap between theoretical wireless breakthroughs and industry-wide implementation.

1. 3GPP Standardization Leadership

Contribution & Strategy: Author and drive technical contributions for 3GPP RAN1 RAN2 and/or RAN working groups.
Global Representation: Attend and actively contribute to 3GPP meetings worldwide (Asia Europe and North America) to steer the direction of 5G NR and future 6G standards.
Intellectual Property: Generate high-value invention disclosures and patent applications based on standardization efforts.

2. Connected Mobility Research

Advanced R&D: Propose and lead research projects focusing on V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communications in vehicular environments.
Collaboration: Partner with internal R&D labs and external academic/industry stakeholders to develop next-generation mobility solutions.
Academic Excellence: Publish research findings in top-tier journals and present to both management and international technical audiences.

3. Cross-Functional Support

Multi-Standard Integration: Contribute to other critical standardization bodies such as SAE ETSI and IEEE 802.
Lab Synergy: Support diverse research initiatives within the InfoTech Labs to maintain Toyotas competitive edge in software-defined vehicles.

What Youll Bring (Qualifications)

We are looking for a PhD-level specialist with a proven track record in 4G/5G standards and the professional gravity to influence global meetings.

Education: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
Standards Expertise: Solid understanding of 4G LTE and 5G NR standards and a deep familiarity with the 3GPP standardization process.
Writing Excellence: Demonstrated experience writing 3GPP contributions particularly within the RAN1 Working Group.
Layer 1/Layer 2 Mastery: Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of wireless communication at the Physical and Data Link layers.
Global Mobility: Ability to travel internationally approximately 5 times per year (typically to Japan Korea India and Europe).
Communication: Exceptional presentation skills tailored for international culturally diverse audiences.
