The primary function of the Specialist Global Trade Compliance is to support Global Trade Legal and the greater Supply Chain Leadership in the streamlining and execution of clients overall global trade compliance vision & strategy.

The vision is a dynamic global program that maximizes the advantages of international trade while establishing strong internal controls to mitigate risks that may jeorpadise a strong regulatory compliance posture.

The Specialist GTC will be responsible for customs compliance and master data which entails the maintenance of customs data for cross-border product portofolio.

The customs master data scope includes detailed product commercial descriptions Harmonized Tariff Classification (HTS) codes Schedule B code for export FDA and CFIA requirements (product codes and registration information) and Country of Origin (CoO) determination In addition to supporting product label review/approval entry corrections reconciliations broker communication and engaging in import/export transaction activity this role will liason with colleagues regarding qualification of clients products for preferential duty treatment and coordinate master data using SAP/GTS software.

As part of the larger Global Trade Compliance department this role will offer team support and participate in career development opportunities.

This role is embedded in a team with a global scope and focused on business activities in North America.

May require up to 10% travel and occasional working sessions outside of normal business hours.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Time % Summary of major duties include:
- 40% Master Data Support - Global
- Customs Master Data including but not limited to analysis and maintenance of data within SAP third party tools and systems used in import activities of client
- Country of origin FDA requirements and Customs Commercial description.
- Maintain master list of imported & exported materials
- New item management & broker databases. - Keep current with sourcing changes
- Manage and maintain eligilibity of products for Free Trade Agreements
- USMCA and Export Global FTA for US and CA regions.
- 30% Global Trade Regulatory Review Global Support
- Harmonized Tariff Classification requires application of subject matter expertise and experience to accurately identify the classification and duty rate of goods imported by client.
- Country of Origin Determination and Markings reviewing for completeness and accuracy which requires attention to detail.
- Partner Government Agency (PGA) determination and associated affirmations of compliance
- Obtain and manage applicable permits and licensing in coordination with other departments such as Quality
- Support activities associated with reconciliation entries
- Keep current with regulatory updates
- 15% Audit & Reporting
- Post summary audit on HTS code COO value and record keeping documentation.
- ACE reports KPI and other reporting.
- 10% Project Stakeholder
- Participate in projects as deemed necessary by the business and department
- 5% Customs Esclations & Team Support
- Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve delays with customs clearance
Dimensions:
- Annual import sales - $ 1.4 Billion
- Degree of Supervision - Perform variety of work within established policies and procedures may receive detailed to general level of instructions on new projects and assignments
- Degree of Knowledge - Sufficient subject matter expertise to support standard situations knowledge of most of the significant aspects of import trade compliance
- Project Management & Implementation - Researches collects data runs analysis drafts content oversees small assignments/projects
- Strategy - Supports planned strategy
- Typical Experience Level - Minimum of 4 years of work experience
Minimum knowledge skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
Education:
- Required High School Diploma and minimum of 6 years industry experience
Preferred
- Bachelors Degree in Logistics Operations Business Admin or related field
- Customs Broker License
- Master Customs Specialist Certified Customs Specialist or similar
- Minimum of 4 years of industry experience
Experience:
- Detailed understanding of import processes and customs compliance including reconciliation and drawback programs.
- Detailed understanding of broker operations and business requirements.
- Knowledge of global trade compliance issues.
- Computer skills including data entry PC Windows database and spreadsheet MS Access.
- Interpersonal communication skills relationship management and collaboration skills.
- Attention to details.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective time management/prioritization skills.
- Strong follow-up skills.
- Strong initiative.
