Job Summary

Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer APQP Large Engine Manufacturing
Location: Lafayette IN
Work Model: Onsite Role
Duration: 12 Months

Key Responsibilities

APQP Facilitation & Development: You will spend a significant portion of your time facilitating cross-functional teams to create and refine core APQP deliverables specifically Process FMEAs (PFMEA) Control Plans and Process Flow Diagrams.
Project Management & Tracking: You will independently schedule and lead APQP readiness meetings track actions from PFMEAs and manage your priorities across multiple simultaneous capital programs.
Data Analysis & Validation: You will be responsible for reviewing and developing process capability studies and measurement systems analysis to validate that new equipment and processes are capable and reliable.
Documentation & Reporting: A key output of this role is the creation of final Production Part Approval (PPAP) documentation. You will also be responsible for formal reporting and presenting updates to stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will interact daily with various departments including Manufacturing Engineering Metallurgy and Metrology to ensure all aspects of quality readiness (e.g. CMM programming validation results) are supported for each new capital program.
Work Environment: This is a 100% on-site role in a factory setting. Your office will be located within the active production plant requiring engagement with the manufacturing floor.

Must Have Requirements:
Must have a reliable personal vehicle.
Proven Hands-On Experience in Large Complex Assembly: A background in diesel/gas engines heavy equipment aerospace or large powertrain assembly is essential. Experience with small consumer assembly will not be sufficient.

Technical Skills:
Updating Control Plans & FMEAs for complex mechanical systems.
Defect Analysis on large assembled products (e.g. oil leaks bearing issues performance deviations).
Torque Tooling Strategy: Deep knowledge of multi-step fastening critical joint analysis and auditing for large components (blocks heads crankshafts manifolds).
Supporting Pilot Builds for new engines or major changes troubleshooting on the live floor.
Gauge and fixture management for large parts.

Preferred Profile:
Industry Background: Automotive (Heavy-Duty) or Large Engine Manufacturing is highly preferred.
Education: Open from AAS to Masters but practical experience in heavy assembly is the primary filter.
Soft Skills: Must communicate effectively with assembly technicians team leaders and engineering.

Job Responsibilities:
Provide real-time engineering support for large engine assembly lines.
Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for assembly-related defects (e.g. leaks contamination incorrect fits).
Develop and validate assembly processes with a keen focus on critical torque sequences and leak-test procedures.
Manage the documentation suite (Control Plans FMEAs Work Instructions) for engine assembly processes.
Support new product launches by troubleshooting build issues during pilot runs.
Ensure measurement systems for large components (bores faces clearances) are capable.

Required Education:
Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering.
Experience: 8-10 years of quality engineering experience.

Technical Skills:
Expertise in APQP: Proven hands-on experience in facilitating and creating all core APQP elementsProcess Flow Control Plan and PFMEA.
Software Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Excel PowerPoint and Teams for analysis presentation and collaboration.

Nice-to-Haves (Differentiators)
Prior experience in the automotive industry or another high-volume discrete manufacturing environment with rigorous quality standards.
Direct experience supporting new capital equipment installation and process launch.

Soft Skills:
Excellent facilitation skills to lead and manage cross-functional meetings (both in-person and virtual).
Strong project management abilities to juggle priorities across multiple complex projects.
