What you will be doing

You will be working in the Sentinam Programme in Rolls-Royce Submarines which is looked to re-establish the sovereign capability to design nuclear pumps. As a New Product Introduction Design Engineer Section Leader you will creating component / assembly designs and associated through-life justification that meet their requirements and product attributes of life cost availability and safety margins. You will also be supporting initial concept design development and supporting prototypes entering into production.

  • Line managing the engineers within the section
  • Delivering on the business strategic goals objectives and performance metrics.
  • Integrating cross-discipline engineering concepts collaborating across manufacturing engineering simulation materials testing and supply chain functions.
  • Setting the long-term direction and strategy for the scope of work
  • Creating Full Life Cycle Design solutions through concept design manufacture operation and disposal.
  • Documenting and verifying information against sound mechanical engineering practices and references.
  • Presenting at technical reviews in front of peers and expert panels.
  • Developing product definitions.
  • Developing functional methods rules and tools for pump design.

Position Qualifications:

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who is/has:

  • Bachelors degree masters or PhD in engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in mechanical design of pumps special purpose machinery or rotating machines and their subcomponents.
  • Experience leading engineers (desirable).
  • An ability to apply logical analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems.
  • CAD Design Software experience
  • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and justification.
  • Experience as design engineer operating across the product life cycle undertaking design safety justification activities supporting manufacturing integration maintenance/refit activities and dealing with operational issues.
  • Experience of research and development analytical and test verification activities.
  • Experience in the development of methods standards and processes.

Formore than 60 years Rolls-Royce Submarines has designed supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant providing power for all UK Royal Navy nuclear submarines.
