The role
We are currently recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer to join our London Office.
The role will involve the provision of a professional structural and surveying engineering service to the Practice and its clients. The role will mostly comprise surveys inspections report writing and producing designs drawings and specifications for small to medium size projects.
The role requires an experienced engineer capable of working on their own and within a team from time to time. It will comprise inspections and report writing so the ability to travel typically within London and the southeast and excellent written English is an essential requirement.
A good knowledge of all forms of construction is required from low rise residential to historic structural techniques to traditional reinforced concrete and steelwork.
This is a technically demanding role and we are seeking candidates with a strong interest in this area of work. Evidence of previous experience would be preferable.
Please Note: This role may be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service Baseline Personnel Security Standard Counter Terrorist Check and Security Check or Developed Vetting clearance.
The selected candidate will
- Work with the team leader to endeavour to maintain a fee income for the structural engineering team to an agreed monthly target.
- Plan undertake and manage structural condition and measured surveys of existing buildings and infrastructure assets.
- Carry out site inspections intrusive and non-intrusive investigations and defect identification to inform design and asset assessment.
- Ensure survey works are undertaken in accordance with relevant standards health & safety legislation and site-specific constraints particularly within secure or operational environments.
- Support early-stage feasibility studies and optioneering by providing robust survey and condition assessment input.
- Assist in the promotion of the Practices structural engineering services.
- Design practical structural design solutions and to interpret with architectural concepts in a practical and economic manner.
- Design and assist with supervising projects establish client briefs technical requirements scope of works cost plans and agree deliverables i.e. report specifications and drawings scope for all projects.
- Assist in agreeing a level of service and project design duties for each project understanding the relationship with the fee.
- Assist with monitoring engineering/CAD/Revit resource requirements for each project within your control.
- Carry out engineering concept design to detailed design tender and contract on site supervision to completion ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved.
- Liaise with the design team to produce co-ordinated designs that are technically compliant to a consistent quality and standard. Provide positive contribution to design/project meetings as directed where required. Maintain regular in house design reviews and checks.
- Monitor and control project progress design variations and project financial budgets where applicable.
- Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
- Undertake structural survey works and produce reports for the same.
- Provide or input to fee quotations as may be required to assist in bidding for work as requested.
- Promote BIM and 3D design/drawings to ensure that they comply with the Practices BIM strategy as well as other Practice services.
- To act as Senior Structural Engineer on projects by attending site for Pre-Start and Project Meetings.
- To understand and clearly define clients expectations to provide advice keep them informed of progress on projects and make them aware of technical and financial implications.
- Assist with the development of junior members of the team their training and development.
Essential skills experience and attributes
- Relevant MEng or BEng degree
- Chartered Structural Engineer with IStructE or ICE.
- Sound knowledge of building construction Building Regulations and allied legislation.
- Experience of projects with a contract value range of 10k -50m.
- Excellent communication problem solving analytical and decision-making skills.
