JOB DEFINITION:
Work with the CN Guidance Youth ACT Team to deliver services to those individuals who are diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance (SED) and whose needs have not been met by more traditional service delivery approaches.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be currently licensed as a physician by the NYS Education Department and certified by or be eligible to be certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Familiarity with psychiatric techniques in evaluation supervision of medication and treatment planning. Experience with SED is necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Has overall clinical responsibility (with the team leader) for monitoring recipient treatment and staff delivery of clinical to ensure compliance with standards including County State and Federal regulations.
- Provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment clinical supervision education and training for the team; and development maintenance and supervision of medication administration and psychiatric and medical treatment and procedures.
- Provide supervision (with the team leader) of the multidisciplinary team process for ongoing assessment and service planning.
- Will develop a specific service plan when psychopharmacological treatment is used including identification of target symptoms medication doses and strategies to monitor and promote commitment to medication.
- Responsible for providing recipients and collaterals with information concerning the effects benefits risks and possible side effects of a proposed course of medication and documenting this in the recipients chart.
- Responsible for prescribing and/or administering medication.
- Will review the appropriateness of the recipients existing medication and document this in the recipients chart.
- Will conduct evaluations and assessments on all recipients prior to admission and within 7 days of admission for Youth ACT services. Evaluations and assessments will be performed either in the Youth ACT office or in the community in places and situations where problems arise.
- Will conduct evaluations and assessments of recipients both pending and following periods of hospitalization or the need for crisis intervention and/or emergency services.
- On-Call Availability: The psychiatrist is expected to be available on call outside of regular business hours as needed for medication-related updates and consultations. This on-call responsibility excludes periods when the psychiatrist is on approved paid time off including sick leave vacation and personal days.
- Contribute to the timely production of all necessary reports to other agencies concerning recipients who they have examined and/or treated.
- Schedules recipient contacts in a manner consistent with the efficient use of time maximizing availability for direct recipient contact. It is preferred that each recipient is met with in person at least one time monthly.
- Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and to keep clients informed of progress.
- Actively engage in agency wide training and work groups as well as NYS specific training on and for the Youth ACT model.
- Identify and implement quality improvement trainings and activities as part of professional development goals
- Encourage quality improvement processes and provide consistent resources for QI and professional development
- Ability to cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths views and experiences. A Culture that makes better decisions drives innovation and delivers better business results.
