Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.
As an Intern Liaison Engineering (or Liaison Engineering Support) you will be part of the frontline engineering team supporting production on the shop floor. Your role is to help resolve real-time construction issues ensure engineering intent is maintained and support the capture of changes through proper engineering processes. You will work closely with Senior Liaison Engineers Production and the Waterfront Change Team (WCT) to bridge the gap between design and build.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
Support Liaison Engineers with production issue resolution by attending the shop floor wearing appropriate PPE and inspecting issues firsthand
Work directly with a dedicated Senior Liaison Engineer to assess problems evaluate constraints and develop practical buildable solutions
Review engineering drawings models and specifications to understand design intent and identify impacts to production
Assist in the preparation mark-up and release of liaison sketches and field solutions in accordance with VSY standards under senior guidance
Support the initiation and tracking of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) resulting from production issues
Coordinate with Production Waterfront Change Teams (WCTs) CMDM and Design teams to ensure approved solutions are clearly communicated and implemented
Verify that approved changes are reflected in drawings sketches and 3D models as required
Help document field resolutions lessons learned and change impacts to support continuous improvement
Maintain accurate records of liaison activities including issue logs sketches and change status tracking
What youll bring
Enrollment in an Engineering or Engineering Technology program
Ability and willingness to work in an active shipyard and production environment
Basic understanding of engineering drawings bills of materials and 3D models
Familiarity with CAD and visualization tools such as Cadmatic eShare Navisworks ShipConstructor or AutoCAD is an asset
Strong observational and problem-solving skills with a practical solutions-focused mindset
Comfortable communicating with production trades engineers and non-technical stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel and Outlook
Organized detail-oriented and able to manage multiple open issues simultaneously
Eagerness to learn take direction from senior engineers and grow within a liaison engineering role

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
Start Date of Internship: Monday May 4th 2026.
End Date of Internship: Friday December 18th 2026 (8-Months).
