Job Summary

DESCRIPTION

This classification is scheduled to receive the following Base Salary Adjustments:

  • 2.54% effective May 1 2026

This is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal recruitment. Only applications from current OCFA extra help employees will be considered. All current OCFA extra help employees are encouraged to apply.

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Benefits Division of the Human Resources Department is recruiting current extra help staff to fill one full-time provisional Administrative Assistant position.

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT
A. A provisional appointment shall not extend beyond the time needed to establish an eligible list and permit a regular appointment to be made. A provisional appointment shall not be continued for more than six (6) months from date of appointment unless an extension of no more than one (1) year from the original date of the provisional appointment is approved by the Human Resources Director.

B. A probationary regular or limited-term employee shall not be eligible for a provisional appointment.

C. A provisional employee shall not serve a probationary period. If a provisional employee receives a regular appointment the employee shall serve a new probationary period. A provisional employee who receives a regular appointment shall maintain his/her original hire date for purposes of vacation and sick leave accrual retirement and layoff.

D. A provisional employee may be released from service at any time without right of appeal or hearing.

E. Provisional employees shall earn all other benefits that accrue to regular employees except for rights and benefits pursuant to the Layoff Procedure provided for in the applicable Memoranda of Understanding or Personnel and Salary Resolution.

CLASS SUMMARY:
Incumbents are responsible for performing activities in support of an office requiring incumbents to have specialized knowledge in order to perform job duties.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Administrative Assistant is distinguished from the Office Services Specialist by its responsibility for performing specialized activities in an assigned area. The Administrative Assistant is distinguished from the Executive Assistant which is responsible for performing complex administrative support activities requiring knowledge of the Authority and its operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (position requirements at entry):

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

EXPERIENCE (position requirements at entry):

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related office experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require reaching finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time the job is rated for Light Work.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents work in a standard office environment.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:

INITIAL SELECTION REVIEW:
