About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and student-centered Academic Advisor to join our Health and Nursing advising this role you will leverage both technical and functional expertise to support student success retention and engagement through proactive advising and program coordination.
The Academic Advisor will maintain an advising caseload and serve as the primary point of contact for new student advising and orientation for Health and Nursing programs. This position also plays a key leadership role in coordinating advising-related events and initiatives designed to support student persistence and academic planning.
In addition this role serves as the second-in-command within the Health and Nursing advising team. When the Assistant Director for Health and Nursing is out of the office this individual will assume leadership responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations and student support.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) other applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards.
- Use canvas and salesforce and internal Ivy Tech systems to assist with scheduling and maintain accurate advising records.
- Apply advanced problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve student issues and situations.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams utilizing clear communication to ensure smooth workflow and project success.
- Analyze data to identify trends and make actionable recommendations for retention improvement.
- Work effectively with program chairs and others to plan and implement sessions for health and nursing students.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in zoom and Microsoft word and excel with hands-on experience in higher education platforms.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data identify patterns and provide data-driven solutions.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically make decisions independently and solve complex problems in a timely manner.

Preferred Additional Skills:
- Familiarity with canvas and salesforce platforms.
- Experience in higher education and advising or similar environments.
- Ability to multi-task and handle fast-paced events and a large volume of email and student inquiries.
- Problem solving and adaptability
- Work closely with Program Chairs and the Dean to support retention persistence and completion for Health Care Specialist students
- Collaborate with academic leadership to identify student success trends and implement targeted retention strategies
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of retention initiatives specific to Health Care Specialist programs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
While formal education or certifications may be beneficial or even required for certain positions what we need are candidates who can demonstrate the practical skills and experience necessary to excel in this role. A proven track record of success in higher education advising roles will be prioritized.
