Description of Work
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City North Carolina. Pasquotank Correctional Institution is a Close/Minimum facility housing male inmates. This position is responsible for providing supervision for subordinate staff conducting shift line-up making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. This position is responsible for conducting investigations and performs searches of persons places and objects. Responsible for completing reviewing and maintaining time reports duty roster leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms. Makes security inspections of the facility and grounds; monitors posts to ascertain that officers are alert that discipline is being maintained and that assignments are carried out properly. Perform rescue functions to include CPR basic first aid physically removing people from dangerous areas and using firefighting equipment to include fire hoses extinguishers and breathing apparatus. Responsible for identifying training needs and coordinates delivery of training to subordinate staff. Accounts for persons and funds and ensures that all equipment is operationally ready for use. This position works closely with and reports directly to the Correctional Captain III.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
The Prisons Eastern Region prefers candidates with no less than 2 years work experience as a Correctional Sergeant
