Job Summary

The role: Reporting to the Recreation Programs Manager and taking day-to-day direction from the Program Coordinator or Programmer the Assistant Programmer Inclusion Support works with the Program Coordinator or Programmer in the planning development implementation and delivery of the Summerside Express program for the City of Campbell River. This Inclusion Support Assistant Programmer role is specific to the delivery of the Summerside Express program a specialized summer camp program that provides opportunities for neurodiverse individuals and/or children and youth with diverse abilities. 

What we offer: The rate of pay for this part-time term CUPE bargaining unit position is $30.09 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits (equivalent to $33.70 per hour).

The regular working day shall not exceed eight (8) hours and the regular working week shall not exceed forty (40) hours.

Hours of work for this part-time LTA are as follows:

  • February through June up to 15 hours/week
  • July and August 40 hours/week
  • September up to 15 hours/week

Assistant Programmer - Inclusion Support - Job Description 


Qualifications :

Education/Training

  • Grade 12
  • Must possess 20 hours of training in the relevant area such as Behavior Management Support Worker training Educational Assistant training Trauma Informed Practices Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) De-escalation training.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Emergency First Aid and CPR-C with AED certifications.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 drivers license and must produce and maintain a clean drivers abstract as per City policy.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience in working with neurodiverse individuals within the last seven (7) years.
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience supervising staff and/or volunteers within a team environment within the last five (5) years.

Preferred Criteria

  • Diploma in Social Work or Child and Youth Care or closely related field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing inclusive and specialized recreation programs and initiatives.
  • Education training or certification in Inclusion and Special Needs Education.
  • Valid Class 4 Drivers License.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for business use.

Unusual Working Conditions

  • Some evenings weekends and split shifts may be required.
  • Working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
  • Some job duties require physical stamina and strength.
  • May be required to lift and transfer participants.
  • May be required to attend to the personal hygiene of participants.
