Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of patient health records. This position ensures timely and accurate indexing scanning and release of medical records in accordance with hospital policies HIPAA regulations and other applicable laws. The HIM Technician supports authorized users by ensuring the electronic legal medical record (e-LMR) is accurate complete and maintained with the highest standards of confidentiality and security.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Processes requests for medical information including subpoenas legal inquiries and third-party requests in
  • compliance with HIPAA and hospital policy.
  • Constructs lists and identifies inactive and deceased patient records for off-site storage.
  • Prepares records for archiving according to retention policies.
  • Performs daily scanning of medical documents into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Ensures documents are correctly indexed to the appropriate patient record and encounter.
  • Verifies image quality and completeness before final submission.
  • Inputs and updates patient data into the EHR system with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Monitors and manages incoming health documentation ensuring it is processed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate filing systems in both electronic and (if applicable) physical formats.
  • Ensures all records are chronologically ordered and comply with hospital documentation standards.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient health information.
  • Collaborate with HIM professionals and other healthcare staff to streamline access and retrieval of medical
  • records.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and federal/state regulations governing the handling of medical records.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) scanningequipment.
  • Familiarity with medical coding record indexing and data entry applications.
  • Ability to maintain accurate organized and timely documentation.
  • Adept at managing large volumes of information with precision.
  • Understanding of healthcare confidentiality regulations including HIPAA and other legal guidelines.
  • Ability to process sensitive information in a secure and compliant manner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with healthcare staff management andexternal parties.
  • Capability to explain complex information management processes to users at various levels.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks manage time efficiently and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Skilled in maintaining systematic records and documentation following hospital procedures.
  • Experience working as part of a healthcare team collaborating across departments to support patient care initiatives.
  • Willingness to assist with special projects and adapt to evolving administrative needs.
  • Ability to identify analyze and resolve issues related to medical record management.
  • Resourceful in finding practical solutions while ensuring compliance and quality of service.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Recent experience in an acute care hospital or healthcare setting with a focus on Health Information
  • Management.
  • Relevant experience in tasks such as analysis processing of release of information requests and digitalscanning of patient records is highly desirable.

Job Type: Full Time Days (Temporary 3-month duration)

Pay: $28-$37/hour
