PacWhale Eco-Adventures has an immediate opening for an experienced Marine Mechanic working out of our maintenance shop in Waikapu and on our vessels in Maalaea harbor.
Position:Marine Mechanic (1) Full-Time Regular Non-Exempt
Location: Waikapu Wailuku HI
Pay: Range $26.00 to $32.00 an hour based on skills/experience

Role Overview:
The Marine Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing the companys ecotour fleet and related equipment in compliance with U.S Coast Guard (USCG) regulations and applicable Code of Federal Regulation (CFRs). This role ensures vessels are safe reliable and ready for commercial operation while minimizing downtime. The Marine Mechanic also supports dry dock projects including work on other islands as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect diagnose and repair inboard outboard diesel and gasoline engines in an environmentally responsible manner
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes filter replacements and tune-ups
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical (12v 24v AC) hydraulic and fuel systems
- Install service and maintain marine electronics navigation systems and required safety equipment
- Communicate clearly with captains and crew to support troubleshooting and maintenance needs in a timely and thorough manner
- Conduct sea trials to verify repairs meet operational and USCG standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and parts inventory using company documentation systems
- Assist with dry dock projects and USCG annual Certificate of Inspection (COI) inspections
- Maintain a clean organized and safe shop tools and work environment
- Follow all safety procedures and environmental regulations
- Demonstrate core values of transparency respect and integrity
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 12 months of hands-on experience working on marine vessels or a minimum of 4 years of equivalent experience in automotive diesel or heavy industry mechanical work.
- Welding and fabrication skills are not required but are viewed favorably and may be utilized as part of the role
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record
- Ability to pass a drug test and participate in random drug screening pool
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to operate a company vehicle
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Excellent time management and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines
- Flexible availability including weekends and holidays
- Knowledge of USCG policies and maritime regulations for Subchapter T certified passenger vessels (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in hot humid and wet marine environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent bending squatting climbing and crawling in confined spaces aboard vessels
