Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Perform patient phlebotomy across inpatient outpatient and Emergency Department (ED) settings including stat ASAP and timed draws.
Process specimens and prepare sendouts in accordance with laboratory procedures.
Positively identify patients prior to collection and specimens prior to testing or aliquoting; maintain complete and accurate labeling.
Safeguard electronic and paper patient information per VA privacy and security requirements.
Identify document and resolve collection or processing issues; escalate per policy when required.
Deliver patientcentered professional service to avoid complaints; meet Acceptable Quality Levels (AQLs).
Participate in continuous Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) activities; attend Laboratory Quality Improvement meetings and laboratory staff meetings; complete required QA/QI documentation.
Document care and activities in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) in accordance with VA policy; refer all recordrelease requests to the VA Release of Information department.
Comply with patientsafety and infectioncontrol standards; report patientsafety events within twentyfour hours using required forms and followup.
Sign in and out; ensure accurate hours reporting as directed by the Laboratory Manager or designee.
Maintain compliance with standard infectioncontrol measures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens training; maintain immunizations.
Meet AQLs for positive patient and specimen identification information security specimen collection/processing/sendout preparation (errors and nearmisses) missed orders/specimens and complaints.
Completes required organizational compliance education including assigned requirements that are client-specified for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications :

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

Must possess three years of recent phlebotomy experience.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Education Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
May require bending stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

Must be able to read write and speak English to effectively communicate.
US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Additional Information :

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.
