Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient phlebotomy across inpatient outpatient and Emergency Department (ED) settings including stat ASAP and timed draws.
  • Process specimens and prepare sendouts in accordance with laboratory procedures.
  • Positively identify patients prior to collection and specimens prior to testing or aliquoting; maintain complete and accurate labeling.
  • Safeguard electronic and paper patient information per VA privacy and security requirements.
  • Identify document and resolve collection or processing issues; escalate per policy when required.
  • Deliver patientcentered professional service to avoid complaints; meet Acceptable Quality Levels (AQLs).
  • Participate in continuous Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) activities; attend Laboratory Quality Improvement meetings and laboratory staff meetings; complete required QA/QI documentation.
  • Document care and activities in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) in accordance with VA policy; refer all recordrelease requests to the VA Release of Information department.
  • Comply with patientsafety and infectioncontrol standards; report patientsafety events within twentyfour hours using required forms and followup.
  • Sign in and out; ensure accurate hours reporting as directed by the Laboratory Manager or designee.
  • Maintain compliance with standard infectioncontrol measures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens training; maintain immunizations.
  • Meet AQLs for positive patient and specimen identification information security specimen collection/processing/sendout preparation (errors and nearmisses) missed orders/specimens and complaints.
  • Completes required organizational compliance education including assigned requirements that are client-specified for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications :

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Must possess three years of recent phlebotomy experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

 

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

 

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read write and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Additional Information :

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.
