- Lead multiple complex system safety programs and associated System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) across several IPTs.
- Provide strategic oversight of system safety planning and execution across development and integration phases.
- Proactively influence system/product design decisions to minimize hazards and risk.
- Author or supervise delivery of multiple complex safety deliverables including:
- System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs)
- Software Hazard Analysis Reports (SHAs)
- Safety Cases / Safety Assessment Reports (SARs)
- Safety & Environmental Management Plans (S&EMP)
- Ensure safety evidence is complete consistent and defensible for internal governance and external customer/regulatory review.
- Perform complex reliability and maintainability predictions at product and system level.
- Use prediction results to guide design trade-offs sparing strategies availability targets and maintenance planning.
- Lead software safety activities for safety-critical and mission-critical embedded systems ensuring hazards related to software behavior control logic and functional integrity are identified and mitigated.
- Seek and apply operational/field data to validate predictions and improve accuracy.
- Lead failure reporting and corrective action activities including Failure Review Boards and root cause investigations.
- Conduct and apply expert-level FMECA down to the component level ensuring linkage to functional effects hazards and mitigations.
- Support delivery of complete FMECA reports and criticality assessments for complex systems.
- Determine methods and procedures for new or complex technical assignments with minimal oversight.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers in safety analysis FMECA and RMT&S processes.
- Lead process improvements tool development and reusable templates that improve consistency across programs.
- Support customer-facing technical discussions and resolution of safety and reliability issues.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related technical/scientific discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 8 years of related experience applying system safety and RMT disciplines on military or complex civilian programs.
- Demonstrated experience leading system safety activities independently across multiple concurrent programs.
- Recognized technical expertise in the practical application of standards such as:
- MIL-STD-882E
- MIL-STD-1629A
- DEF-STAN 00-056
- SAE ARP4761
- Knowledge of software development assurance practices in regulated or defense environments (e.g. DO-178C concepts IEC 61508 software integrity principles)
- Proven experience producing and leading delivery of complex safety documentation (SSPPs Safety Cases SARs).
- Expertise in reliability prediction tools failure investigation processes and advanced FMECA execution.
Assets:
- Military vehicle and component level safety experience
- Experienced in SAFe Agile environment
