Description

The Kilby Laboratory School at the University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Special Education Collaborative K-6/Gifted Instructor Supervising Teacher. This position will serve students in special education in a collaborative environment; complete all special education paperwork accurately according to regulations and adhering to specified deadlines; demonstrate knowledge of child development and characteristics of special education students; accommodate clinical experiences in the classroom; work collaboratively with other Kilby faculty on instructional strategies; conduct classroom research; serve on committees; and participate in other job-related activities as requested. Additional duties will include supervising student interns accommodating clinical experiences in the classroom participation in school-wide trainings professional organizations and parent/teacher organization functions. The successful candidate must have a clear understanding of the Alabama Reading Initiative; Alabama Math Science and Technology Initiative; College and Career Ready standards; the Alabama Literacy Act the Alabama Numeracy Act and be committed to implementing innovative practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a masters degree in collaborative special education gifted education or elementary education (K-6) is required; education specialist (Ed.S.) degree is preferred; three or more years of teaching experience in grades K-6 is preferred; three years of teaching experience in grades P-6 is preferred; National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification is preferred; STEM instructional experience is preferred; training in the science of reading (LETRS) is preferred; ability to be deemed Highly Qualified in the State of Alabama; valid unencumbered Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Collaborative Special Education (K-6) Gifted Education P-12 or Elementary Education K-6 or the ability to obtain such through reciprocity is required. If the applicant does not have a certification in gifted education the applicant must obtain such by the end of the third year of employment.
