TECHNICAL OPERATIONS MANAGER PULP AND POWER MILL

Scope:
The Technical Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing technical and operational functions including safety environmental compliance and process engineering. This position ensures operational excellence through effective process monitoring technical support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives. The Technical Operations Manager works closely with mill leadership operations teams and maintenance to drive performance reliability and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the management of the Pulp Mill using a combination of daily review with production maintenance and front-line managementas well as spending time on the floor where the incumbent will lead and guide direct reports.
- Actively participates in weekly business reviews capital/project reviews safety staff meetings and budget reviews.
- Manages select salaried employees through goals setting performance management onboarding training and recruitment efforts.
- Actively supports and promotes safe work practices throughout the mill by being present at safety activities and personally encouraging safe behaviors. Lead hazard analyses incident investigations and correct action implementation.
- Ensures processes and systems are in place for positive labor relations community relations training and development and health safety and environmental compliance.
- Is responsible for overall mill operations during certain weekends on a rotation basis.
- Ensures that both salaried and hourly employees have adequate training to support activities of the pulp mill.
- Assists with the development of the annual budget for the pulp mill with all departments. The incumbent is expected to identify and implement opportunities to improve cost performance.
- Ensures processes and systems are in place to take full advantage of effective inventory control.
- Ensure proper processes and systems are available to provide for sufficient quality and quantity of roundwood chips and bark for the operations at a competitive price.
- Advises and/or recommends on issues pertaining to production organizational issues process changes and process improvements (identifying opportunities designing improvements coordinating implementation).
- Act as company liaison between Twin Rivers and government agencies environmental outreach and other external partners.
- Lead hazard mapping exercises with cross functional teams to improve the overall reliability of the operation.
- Assists with annual outage planning and execution
- Backfills for mill manager during vacancies
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in engineering (Chemical Mechanical or related discipline required).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a pulp and paper mill or similar heavy industrial environment (preferred) with roles of increasing responsibility
- Demonstrated experience in process engineering operations support or technical services.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with proven ability to solve complex technical problems.
- Excellent organizational planning and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities with the capability to work cross-functionally.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards within manufacturing or industrial sectors.
