DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

This is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) promotional recruitment. Only applications from current qualified OCFA employees will be accepted. CLASS SUMMARY:

Incumbents are primarily responsible to review planning and construction documents for compliance with codes and standards to ensure that all new construction and tenant improvements meet fire and life safety provisions throughout the jurisdiction. This is a senior-level fire prevention position with advanced experience in building and fire code application and the design and installation of specialized fire protection systems. Incumbents are assigned to the Planning and Development Services Section.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Fire Prevention Analyst is the fifth level in an eight level fire prevention series. The Fire Prevention Analyst is distinguished from the Fire Prevention Specialist and Senior Fire Prevention Specialist by its lead responsibilities in the area of design and construction.


ADDITIONAL PAY:

OCFA Fire Prevention Analysts are eligible for additional special pay(s) as applicable per the Orange County Employees Association MOU (pages 99 - 104).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:


EDUCATION(position requirements at entry):

  • Associate degree in a related field


EXPERIENCE(position requirements at entry):

  • Three years of related code application experience at an advanced level


Highly Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field
  • OCFA Plan Review Fire Prevention Specialist position experience
  • State Fire Marshal and/or ICC Certifications in related field

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require sitting for prolonged periods balancing reaching walking driving lifting finger dexterity grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.


Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts electrical currents vibrations fumes dusts gases poor ventilation chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions intense noises and travel.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:

INITIAL SELECTION REVIEW:

The Human Resources Department reviews all initial application materials to identify qualified applicants. Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be invited to the first phase of the recruitment process. The OCFA reserves the right to refer only the better qualified applicants if the number of applicants is high. If the number of applicants is high the review process may include a secondary screening (by a panel of job knowledge experts) of the applications and/or supplemental questionnaires in which the better qualified applicants are referred to the next phase of the recruitment process. Because recruitment processes vary applicants are advised to thoroughly review the job announcement before submitting their online application materials.


TESTING:
Testing for this position may include but is not limited to the following: written exam practical exam panel interview physical ability test assessment center oral presentation project assignment etc. If a revision is made to a testing component during a recruitment process the assigned recruiter will notify by email all affected applicants.

ELIGIBLE LIST:

The duration of the Eligible List for this recruitment is one year unless abolished by the Assistant Chief / Human Resources Director prior to the expiration.
