At Ottawa Inner City Health (OICH) we do health care differently. Its part of who we are. We are a nurse-led trauma-informed organization working on the front lines of homelessness and mental health. We work in the margins- the grey area- with clients experiencing complex trauma mental illness and substance use challenges. Our approach is hands-on harm reduction focused relationship-driven and rooted in human dignity.

Nurse Coordinator (Full Time only)
As a Nurse Coordinator you will be managing the health care of clients of the Ottawa Inner City Health Inc and includes building therapeutic trust-based relationship with will assess the clients needs refer clients for admission assist clients to complete the admissions process create suitable (trauma-informed) plans of care coordinate care activities and monitor compliance with the care plan.
The Nurse Coordinator also provides support and program specific functional supervision to RPNs and Client Care Workers and collaborates with partner organization staff (shelter and supportive housing) to ensure the highest possible quality of care to clients of Ottawa Inner City Health.
Must possess a current license as an RN in the province of Ontario with the College of Nurse up to date vaccines current BLS Certification and a recent Vulnerable Sector police check.
Harm Reduction Worker
The role of the Trailer Harm Reduction (Peer) Worker is to assertively engage clients of the CTS in a trusting relationship and support them while they access services. The peer role is to engage build rapport and advocate for clients while enforcing the rules that allow for the safe operation of The Trailer in compliance with the terms and conditions of the exemption from Health Canada.
Ideal candidates have personal experience with any of the following: addiction drug use alcohol use mental health and/or homelessness. Must be comfortable working with the homeless & under housed injection drug users sex trade workers as well asmembers of the LGTBQ2S communities. It is imperative that Harm Reduction Workers have good people skills and be able to deescalate situations in a trauma informed approach be non-judgemental and be willing to learn.
Both Full Time and Part Time staff must be willing and able to work all shifts (days evening overnight) on a rotating basis. Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check (note since we are seeking people with lived experience having a criminal record is an automatic disqualification for the role).
Support Worker
At OICH Support Workers are a member of our Client Care teams within Housing and Shelter programs. Our teams are committed to helping individuals with complex needs to achieve a true quality of life. Each of our clients has their own physical and emotional needs and we strive to meet those needs daily through person-centered care that promotes dignity autonomy and a strong sense of belonging.
The Support Worker works in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team of OICH health care providers program peers and our partners housing and shelter staff include providing support for daily living adhering to individualized care plans and daily routines helping clients prepared to attend appointments medication administration maintaining a safe and clean living environment and participating in behavioural interventions. Must be comfortable working with the homeless & under housed drug and alcohol users as well as clients with significant mental and physical is imperative that Support Workers have good people skills and be able to deescalate situations in a trauma informed approach be non-judgemental and be willing to learn.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
Personal Support Worker or Developmental Support Worker or similar diploma / certificate
Health care Home Support or Personal Aid Worker training or experience
Currently enrolled Nursing students who have completed their first year of their program and Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) who have initiated the registration process with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Experience working with members of our client community is an asset.
Work is done in 24-hour programs; therefor staff must be willing and able to work all shifts (days evening overnight) including weekends on a rotating basis within housing shelter and hospice provide a current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.
Registered Practical Nurse

Ottawa Inner City Health is looking for Full-timeand Part-Time RPNs to join our team as part of the Consumption & Treatment Services (CTS) - aka the Trailer the Targeted Engagement and Diversion (TED) and Hospice programs. The successful incumbent will work closely and collaborate with the staff and managers working in these programs as a team member to provide high-quality care to clients following a harm reduction philosophy. RPNs are expected to cross-train at all locations.
