The primary mission of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is to provide science-based environmental stewardship for the health and prosperity of all North Carolinians. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the lead stewardship agency for the protection of North Carolinas environmental resources. The organization which has offices from the mountains to the coast administers regulatory programs designed to protect air quality water quality and the publics health and works to advance in all-of-the-above energy strategy that fits North Carolinas needs. DEQ also offers technical assistance to businesses farmers local governments and the public and encourages responsible behavior with respect to the environment through education programs provided at DEQ facilities and through the states school system. DEQ touches the lives of all North Carolinians in many ways to enhance and ensure our quality of life.
Description of Work
*This is a time-limited position. It is full-time (40 hours per week) with State Benefits for a limited time. Although the length of time this position will be active cannot be determined it has the potential to extend up to 3 years (36 months). Manager Preferences:
* Experience using equipment/instruments to evaluate health and safety and weatherization measures performed on a home.
* Experience inspecting homes for energy conservation measures.
The DEQ State Energy Office:
The DEQ State Energy Office serves as the agent of energy planning and program development to ensure a sustainable energy future for the residents of North Carolina. This Division provides services and technical expertise on energy efficiency encourages the growth and development of the states energy economy and works to increase the use of renewable energy and alternative fuels. The State Energy Office supports energy efficiency in public buildings by assisting North Carolina governmental units in managing the use and cost of electricity water and other utilities in their facilities. The State Energy Office provides programs services and technical expertise for advancing energy efficiency increasing alternative energy and fuel sources providing educational opportunities for the public state and local governments universities schools and businesses and working closely with other state agencies in responding to energy emergencies during natural disasters andsupply interruptions.

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors degree in business or public administration engineering or construction technology from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in administering grant contracts or supervising or performing energy conservation audit or construction projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess:
A single-family dwelling Quality Control Inspector certification. Building Products and Products Institute (BPI) Home Energy Professional (HEP) Quality Control Inspector (QCI) certification.
Obtaining and maintaining a BPI Multifamily Building Analyst certification is a continuing condition of employment. Failure to obtain a valid BPI Multifamily Building Analyst certification within 6 months of the positions start date will result in separation from employment. This multifamily course will be available at no cost through the NC WAP Training Program.
A Valid NC Drivers License.
