The Department of Education at Westminster College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education with an emphasis on Secondary Education beginning August 15 2026. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of teacher educators committed to preparing the next generation of reflective skilled and compassionate teachers. The position includes teaching undergraduate education courses advising teacher education candidates supervising field experiences and contributing to departmental initiatives that promote excellence in teacher preparation.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
- Teach a 4-4 load of undergraduate education courses including methods in secondary education instructional strategies classroom management assessment and other courses aligned with the candidates expertise and departmental needs.
- Provide mentorship guidance and feedback to pre-service teachers during field experiences and student teaching placements.
- Demonstrate knowledge of teacher evaluation frameworks effective feedback strategies and current best practices in teaching and learning.
- Model effective instructional strategies that promote engagement equity and academic success for all students.
- Collaborate with faculty staff and school district partners to support field placements and teacher development.
- Participate in curriculum development program assessment and accreditation processes.
- Remain current in the field of education through scholarly activity professional development and participation in educational conferences.
- Serve on college and departmental committees and contribute to the broader Westminster community.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Education Department and the preparation and success of education majors.
Job Requirements:
Education: Earned doctorate in Education or a related field (ABD candidates will be considered if degree completion is expected by the start date or within a clearly defined timeframe).
Experience:
- Successful teaching experience at the secondary (middle or high school) level is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor evaluate and provide feedback to teacher candidates.
- Experience in teacher preparation instructional coaching or supervision preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of current educational research teaching strategies and professional standards in teacher education.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students colleagues and school partners.
- Effective communication collaboration and organizational skills.
- Commitment to inclusive and student-centered teaching practices.
- Active participation in professional or educational conferences.
