This is a part-time position scheduled to work 20 hours per week.

• Part-time employees are paid hourly; the monthly salary will be prorated (the salary range listed in the job announcement applies to full-time positions).
• Part-time employees are eligible for benefits and holiday pay on a prorated basis according to their work schedule.

You must be a current employee with the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) to be considered for this position. This includes regular status trial service temporary and limited duration employees. ODHS volunteer and contract employees are not included.

Summary of Duties

As a Child Protective Services Worker you will:

• Respond to referrals interviewing children parents and contacts.

• Observe home environments conduct child safety assessments and make determinations of abuse or neglect taking protective action when necessary.

• Develop service plans to meet the needs of children and families.

• Arrange medical evaluations placements and connect families with services and resources.

• Create reports safety plans assessment evaluations case notes testify in court and communicate with diverse populations.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid drivers license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.

• A bachelors degree in human services or a field related to human service. Or

• A bachelors degree unrelated to Human Services and either:

  • One year of Human Services related experience. Or

  • Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency or

• An associate degree and either:

  • Two years of Human Services related experience. Or

  • One year of Human Services related experience and related training coursework or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.

Per pursuant toORS 419B.021states that any position engaged in child protective investigations and/or custody determinations must meet the educational requirements. Experience alone will not meet the minimum qualifications for those positions. Degree must be completed not in progress.

Working Conditions

• Work will take place in offices participants homes and various community sites.

• Frequent travel is required for Attending meetings trainings transporting children or families and conducting case related activities.

• This is a part-time position with a minimum of 20 hours per week. The schedule will be set upon hire and is expected to follow a MondayFriday format.

• Scheduled hours may fluctuate based on service needs with possible compensated overtime including evenings and weekends.

• You may interact with individuals experiencing trauma or emotional distress. There may be times when individuals have difficulties with managing their emotional responses.

• You may meet situations requiring quick decision-making to ensure your safety or the safety of others.

• Activities include traversing stairs moving on uneven terrain and assisting children (up to 50 pounds) in and out of car seats.
