REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Masters Degree in counseling from an approved school counselor preparation program. Current/valid South Dakota School Counselor Certificate.
Experience: None. Previous experience in school setting preferred.
Physical Requirements: Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking keyboarding speaking writing bending carrying pushing pulling sitting and turning. Some lifting up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication strategic planning problem solving organizational time management and conflict resolution skills. Computer proficiency in word processing spreadsheets data entry email and internet. Ability to keep information confidential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
- Counsels individuals and small groups.
- Consults with teachers staff parents and other significant people regarding the needs of students.
- Refers students with significant challenges to appropriate community resources in consultation with parents/guardians.
- Plans evaluates revises and implements a comprehensive counseling program in conjunction with other guidance counselors from other buildings.
- Provides parent/adult education opportunities.
- Provides orientation of students to new situations.
- Coordinates guidance activities.
- Participates in developing and implementing the Districts Crisis Prevention Plan.
- Works with the Curriculum Director in coordinating standardized testing and all other testing programs.
- Guides and counsels groups and individual students in higher grade levels toward the development of educational and career plans.
- Coordinates registration at High School grade levels.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
