Academic Development Programme - New Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to AssociateProfessor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time toreflect and develop.


Summary of Role
You will contribute to a range of teaching scholarship and administration as we move into ournew facility the Birmingham Centre for Anatomy Surgical and Clinical Skills (BCASCS). In addition you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship developing and maintaining mutuallyrespectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students while ensuring the wayyou carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management development (including programme/module review) and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels and
(b) enhancement of the student experience and employability. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students and
(b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods. You will beexpected to advance teaching and learning practice in anatomy specifically in terms of technologyenhanced education and clinical imaging and play an important role in student academic andpastoral support. You will deliver excellent teaching that inspires students and is informed bydiscipline-based research. Management and administration is likely to include developing and making substantialcontributions to knowledge transfer enterprise business engagement public engagement widening participation schools outreach or similar activities at Department/School level orfurther within the University.


Main Duties / Responsibilities
Education
1. Specifically you will be involved in the introduction or improvement of technologyenhanced education and educational resources:
introducing modern technology enhanced educational tools e.g. augmented virtualor mixed reality. This requires investigation and development of presently availabletechnology as well as keeping up with fast moving new trends;
developing innovative exciting integrated learning opportunities to be used forhealthcare students in BCASCS by developing educational resources that integrateclinical content with fundamental sciences e.g. anatomy and medical imaging (US X-ray CT MRI); 3d scanning and printing of scarce or irreplaceable material ( or pathological collections;
embedding these resources across our programmes including integration intoassessment where appropriate.
2. You will be involved across the range of teaching and learning activities in anatomy ( anatomy histology neuroanatomy embryology radiology):
contributing to curriculum development and/or renewal;
developing and managing approaches to teaching and learning that are best practicein the subject area or institution;
advising others on aspects of learning teaching and assessment;
contributing to and publishing scholarly output;
delivering (where appropriate) specific professional programmes;
advancing the practice of teaching in modules within the School playing animportant role in student academic support;
informing your teaching practice by anatomical or pedagogical research orscholarship;
frequently updating your subject expertise and undertaking personal professionaldevelopment in teaching including self-reflection on own teaching using studentand peer review feedback to enhance own teaching and learning processes;
where appropriate playing an important role in the recruitment and admission ofstudents;
co-supervising doctoral students to completion.
3. Using a variety of methods in teaching and advising individuals and groups ofundergraduates postgraduates or external students including (as appropriate):
teaching assessing and examining courses at a range of levels;
planning and reviewing your own teaching approaches and encouraging others to dothe same;
creating and designing learning and assessment materials including technologyenhanced resources and high quality prosected anatomical specimens;
designing contemporary inclusive engaging and academically challenging curriculumcontent including technology enhanced education;
working collaboratively with colleagues to design and deliver teaching learning andassessment;
using digital resources/environments effectively to support learning and assessment;
making substantial contributions to the design of teaching programmes more widely;
where appropriate undertaking and developing the full range of responsibilities inrelation to supervision marking and examining;
developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods includingtechnology enhanced methods;
developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer enterprisebusiness engagement public engagement/outreach activities or similar that enhancesthe student experience or employability and which benefits the College andUniversity;
devising and supervising projects student dissertations and practical work.

Management/Administration
To contribute to Departmental/School administration. This may include:
contributing to the administration/management of teaching across theDepartment/School;
where appropriate leading and managing a team to devise and implement a newand/or revised process (e.g. recruitment drive);
supporting and leading on management of anatomical collections and human materialaudit activities;
assisting the Designated Individual for Anatomical Examination and professionalservices staff in all activities related to compliance with Human Tissue Act anatomicallegislation as required;
advising on personal development of colleagues and students;
contributing to administrative activities within the University (e.g. appeals panelsworking groups);
managing enterprise business development and public engagement activities;
developing and making substantial contributions to recruitment (e.g. attendance atOpen Days) public engagement widening participation schools outreach;
promoting equality diversity and inclusion through monitoring and evaluation andactively challenging unacceptable behaviour.

Person Specification

General qualifications and education
Normally a higher degree relevant to the discipline area (usually PhD) or equivalentqualifications.
Medical or dental degree and/or degree in anatomy or related subject.
Educational qualification e.g. postgraduate certificate/diploma in higher education.
Substantial experience of providing technology enhanced education (e.g. virtual augmentedor mixed reality; 3D printing).
Extensive teaching experience and scholarship including outputs within anatomy.
Proven ability to devise advise on and manage learning.
Skills in managing motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels.
Membership of Anatomical Society British Association of Clinical Anatomists or equivalentlearned society.

Learning and teaching requirements
Excellent knowledge of anatomy histology embryology and neuroanatomy.
Good understanding of HTA regulations and codes of practice.
Ability to design deliver assess and revise teaching programmes.
Experience of learning and teaching competence using human donor material.
Evidence of innovative teaching methods.
Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches tolearning and teaching and advising colleagues including technology enhanced methods.
Experience and achievement in knowledge transfer enterprise or similar activity that
enhances the student experience or employability.
Experience in public engagement outreach recruitment scholarly outputs or similar activities
(desired).
Expertise in clinical imaging (desired).

Management and administration requirements
Ability to contribute to School/Departmental management processes.
Ability to assess and organise resources effectively.
Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.
Experience of championing equality diversity and inclusion in own work area.
Ability to monitor and evaluate the extent to which equality and diversity legislation policiesprocedures are applied.
