Position SummaryPlan and deliver daily ELA instruction for two classes at the same grade level (as assigned 5th - 8th grade). Also responsible for providing daily supervision and support for one class during recreation recess lunch and Duties & ResponsibilitiesLead ELA teacher for one grade level; two classes of students and implement ELA strong and mutually respectful relationships with students and their families based on open communication and collaboration including weekly communications with families on ParentSquare and on the phone. Facilitate and sustain an emotionally safe and trauma-informed classroom and program professional boundaries and mutually respectful relationships with colleagues supervisors and community partners with the foundation of open communication respect and with admin staff and colleagues to develop and implement instruction and provide meaningful feedback to in collaboration with a team consisting of a math teacher grade level paraprofessionals classroom coaches SEL team and the HSHU community values. Attend all training professional learning clean up onboarding programming and community and input all required metrics data and surveys by assigned duties as Skills Abilities & Other AttributesMinimum 2-4 years of classroom experience teaching ELAStrong background in implementing structured literacy Strong understanding of ELA assessment at different developmental ages/stagesExperience working with a wide range of abilities and differentiating learning to meet the needs of all studentsExperience teaching social-emotional learning and mentoringExperience building community in middle school classrooms Strong commitment to the Horizons SHU missionExperience with project-based learning preferredEffective oral and communication skillsExperience using technology to enhance instructionDemonstrated skills and abilities to mentor and coach classroom staff Unusual Working ConditionsThis is a seasonal summer program position. Staff are required to attend all training professional learning onboarding programming community events and clean-up/reporting is a full-day Days generally run 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 days are8:00 a.m. - 4:00 of Program:Training week: 6/22 through 6/26/26Program Days: 6/29 through 8/7/26Clean-up & Reporting Days: 8/10 & 8/11/26
