Job Summary

Are you an experienced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professional ready to lead influence and drive system-level change

We are seeking a Senior Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program Officer to provide strategic leadership expert advice and program oversight to improve access to culturally safe primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This is a senior role within the Integrated Team Care (ITC) Program working across community Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) Aboriginal Medical Services (AMSs) and mainstream primary care to strengthen service integration and health outcomes.

About the Role

Reporting to Manager Operations you will:

  • As an ATSI Health Program Officer you will play a vital role in supporting participants to identify their goals and social needs and connecting them with appropriate services programs and networks. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide strategic leadership and high-level advice on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.
  • Lead and support the delivery and continuous improvement of the Integrated Team Care (ITC) Program providing professional guidance to Care Coordinators and Outreach Workers.
  • Strengthen partnerships and collaboration across Aboriginal and mainstream health services government programs and peak bodies.
  • Drive initiatives that improve cultural safety workforce capability and access to primary care including outreach programs such as MOICDP RHOF and VOS.
  • Advocate for improved uptake of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanderspecific MBS items including Item 715 Health Assessments.
  • Contribute to program governance reporting and continuous improvement activities.
  • Promote alignment with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health priorities.

This role is a part time 6-month contract 3 days a week or 45.68 hours per fortnight based in Albany.

About You

  • We are looking for someone who brings experience compassion and strong relationship-building skills. You will ideally have:
  • A recognised qualification in Allied Health Community Services or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health including Aboriginal Health Worker or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with current AHPRA registration where applicable.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people living with chronic disease.
  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues cultural safety and relevant policies.
  • Experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Well-developed advocacy communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working within or alongside multidisciplinary and primary care teams.
  • Confidence using electronic clinical and program data systems and producing high-quality written reports.
  • The ability to travel as and when required (with a Current C Class Drivers Licence) and the ability to provide National Police Clearance (current).
