Description of Work

The RIPS Consultant serves as a Regional Infection Prevention Support Consultant within the Communicable Disease Branch providing technical consultation and education to long-term care facilities and local health departments. This position strengthens infection prevention and control practices through proactive site assessments outbreak response and tailored educational interventions.

Responsibilities include conducting Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) visits developing educational materials and collaborating with healthcare partners to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with communicable diseases. The role covers an assigned region of 2030 counties and requires coordination with multiple stakeholders to promote compliance with public health standards.

This position will require use of personal vehicle to travel throughout assigned region for work.


Key Duties Include:
- Conduct routine infection prevention site assessments using ICAR and Environmental Rounding tools to evaluate compliance and identify gaps.
- Observe infection prevention practices in long-term care facilities and provide corrective feedback based on current public health standards.
- Deliver tailored infection prevention education to facility staff selecting and preparing materials grounded in evidence-based practices.
- Provide technical guidance to healthcare facilities and local health departments on infection prevention and outbreak management.
- Develop revise and implement educational tools and resources to support infection prevention compliance and best practices.
- Assist with epidemiological investigations and outbreak response including onsite assessments and corrective education.
- Collaborate with local health departments to address infection control gaps and create targeted educational interventions.
- Build and maintain partnerships between public health agencies and long-term care facilities to strengthen infection prevention networks.
- Document site visits assessments and educational activities to support program evaluation and reporting requirements.
- Participate in statewide initiatives to improve infection prevention standards and reduce healthcare-associated infections.

Salary Grade Range: $57983.00 - $101470.00

Recruitment Range: $57983.00 - $80000.00

  • Demonstrated expertise conducting Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) visits and environmental rounding assessments to evaluate compliance and identify infection prevention gaps.

  • Proven success delivering tailored infection prevention education to healthcare facility staff including developing and presenting evidence-based training materials.

  • Advanced proficiency applying infection prevention principles during outbreak investigations and implementing corrective measures to reduce communicable disease transmission.

  • Extensive experience collaborating with local health departments and healthcare facilities to design and implement targeted infection control interventions and educational tools.

  • Skilled in preparing detailed documentation of site assessments educational activities and outbreak response actions using word-processing presentation and data collection software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push or pull or otherwise move objects including the subjects own body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

  • Work Requires visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading; visual inspections involving small defects small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

  • Must have a valid North Carolina drivers license.

  • This position requires: crouching standing walking talking hearing and repetitive motions.
