Description of Work

The Data Collector position supports the HIV/STD Surveillance Unit by conducting data collection activities for the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) a CDC-funded HIV surveillance initiative.

This role involves recruiting participants conducting interviews and performing medical record reviews to gather data on healthcare access outcomes and related factors. Responsibilities include statewide travel to maintain provider relationships perform field visits and complete on-site data abstractions. Work requires adherence to confidentiality standards and effective communication with diverse populations to support public health research and program improvement.

Key Duties Include:
- Recruit eligible participants for the Medical Monitoring Project through telephone outreach and in-person engagement.
- Conduct structured interviews with persons living with HIV to collect data on healthcare access outcomes and behavioral factors.
- Perform medical record abstractions at healthcare provider facilities to obtain clinical and treatment information.
- Travel statewide including overnight to conduct recruitment visits interviews and data collection activities at medical offices and public facilities.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with medical providers to facilitate access to patient lists schedules and space for interviews.
- Document and manage collected data using electronic data collection software in compliance with confidentiality and security protocols.
- Coordinate field operations to ensure timely completion of interviews and medical record reviews according to project timelines.
- Communicate effectively with participants and providers regarding sensitive topics including sexual and drug use behaviors in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner.
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records of recruitment interviews and data abstraction activities for program evaluation.
- Support project planning and implementation by providing feedback on recruitment strategies and operational processes.

Salary Grade Range: $50000.00 - $87654.00

Recruitment Range: $50000.00 - $66355.00

  • Demonstrated experience conducting structured interviews with diverse populations including discussing highly sensitive topics such as sexual and drug use behaviors in a respectful and professional manner.

  • Proven success performing medical record abstractions at healthcare provider facilities and accurately documenting clinical information for surveillance projects.

  • Skilled in using electronic data collection software and related computer applications to manage and submit confidential health data securely and efficiently.

  • Extensive experience coordinating statewide field operations including participant recruitment in-person interviews and maintaining relationships with medical providers to support data collection activities.

  • Advanced capability preparing detailed reports and maintaining accurate records of interviews medical abstractions and recruitment activities to meet project timelines and quality standards.
