We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join Biogens ImmunoBiology Open Innovation team at our West Coast Hub in South San Francisco. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on modulating key components of B cell biology to address autoimmune and inflammatory this position you will play a critical role in generating and interpreting data that contributes to our pipeline working closely with cross-functional teams to translate scientific insights into impactful therapies. The work will span early drug discovery through preclinical development providing exposure to the decision-making processes that advance programs toward first-in-human studies. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Biogens innovative research and collaborative ecosystem shaping next-generation therapies for patients with unmet need.
What Youll Do:
As an intern you will contribute to research projects focused on B cell biology and immune modulation in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases:
- Design and execute experiments to generate high-quality data that informs early drug discovery and preclinical development.
- Apply advanced cellular immunology and molecular biology techniques to characterize immune pathways and disease-relevant mechanisms.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results integrating findings with broader program objectives.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align scientific insights with translational strategies.
- Develop oral and written communication skills by presenting key findings at internal meetings and participating in team discussions.
Who You Are:
- Strong foundation in immunology with an understanding of autoimmune and inflammatory disease mechanisms.
- Extensive hands-on experience in immunological techniques including immune cell isolation in vitro cell-based assays and multicolor flow cytometry.
- Strong analytical skills including interpretation of complex datasets and proficiency with data visualization and statistical tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot experiments and adapt to evolving research priorities.
- Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills.
To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited community college college university or skills program/apprenticeship.
Education Requirements
- Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program.
- Required Majors: Immunology Molecular Biology Cell Biology Biomedical Sciences or other related disciplines.

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $29.00-$33.00
The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidates current academic level and degree candidacy inclusive of Associate Bachelors Masters JD MD PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
