Senior Quality Director

Summary

Reporting to the VP of Quality & Technology for PCC Metals and Forgings this position is responsible for global Quality oversight for PCC Forgings Division businesses.

Reports: One division Quality staff member

• Divisional Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) subject-matter expert

Indirect Reports: Site Quality Directors/Managers

Interactions: GMs VP of Corporate Quality Quality Council members Quality Leadership within Forgings

Essential Functions

• Providing Quality leadership and direction to the PCC Forgings plants keeping the Quality teams aligned to achieve strong internal Quality performance and a positive external Quality image for PCC Forgings Division
• Guiding external Quality related discussions affecting PCC Forgings Division QMS and products
• Oversight and evaluation of the effectiveness of all PCC Forgings Division Quality assessment activities
• Establishing a Zero Defects culture through training and deployment of the Zero Defects toolkit including Quality Planning 8D Problem Solving and Human Factors.

Additional Responsibilities

• Guides the development and maintenance of the QMS to ensure it meets all industry and/or customer requirements
• Ensures robust workflows are in place for Quality and Engineering reviews of customer enquiries and orders
• Establishes the inspection processes required to ensure conformance to customer requirements
• Facilitates customer interaction to include process reviews inspection technology and application
• Represents the Division as necessary on all Quality matters and advises Management as appropriate
• Ensures the plants have capable product certification systems and the suitability of all internal and external laboratory and product quality testing
• Responsible for the Documentation Management System ensuring the system meets all third party end user and customer requirements to maintain all mandatory accreditations and qualifications
• Assists the organization to establish metrics collect and analyze data to highlight improvement opportunities to eliminate escapes reduce scrap rework and concessions improve first pass yield and improve customer satisfaction
• Supports sites in the event of a Quality Escape ensuring the 8D problem solving methodology is applied effectively to identify true root causes and establish permanent corrective actions through engineered solutions
• Assists senior leaders in preparing the Quality Schedules ahead of each Manufacturing Operations Review and attends reviews as required to support the PCC Forgings Division Quality function.
• Leads the organization to realize improvement through positive reaction to all internal and external audit non-conformances through appropriate corrective and preventive actions
• Primary facilitator of all external contact with respect to material certification internal quality system documents corrective actions third-party auditors and accreditations
• Facilitates best practice sharing across all plants with respect to the Quality Management System and the use of the Zero Defects toolkit
• Ensures employees in the Quality function have the necessary training and skills to perform their roles effectively and supports Human Resources in succession planning for critical Quality roles
• Represents PCC Forgings Division on the PCC Quality Council
• Makes recommendations for personnel decisions and performs competency assessments and performance reviews
• Completes various other assignments and duties as assigned.
• Participates in ASQE Nadcap and other industry bodies to satisfy regulatory requirements and further the reputation of the PCC Forgings Division plants
• Ensures that the Quality Rules are applied on a fair and consistent basis supporting the sites in training and investigations

Experience & Education

• Bachelors Degree required (strongly preferred in field Engineering)
• 7 years of post-baccalaureate experience as a manager of quality assurance and 5 years managing multiple locations while managing quality managers with specific experience including:

• Managing Quality Assurance functions in a manufacturing facility
• Conducting technical investigations related to Quality issues and summarizing findings in detailed technical reports
• Leading Zero Defects and similar Quality improvement initiatives across multiple sites
• Experience in Destructive and Non-Destructive Testing of materials
• Prior experience required in ISO 9001/ AS9100 Nadcap and A2LA site accreditation

Physical Requirements

• May require up to 60% travel to different sites suppliers or customer locations both locally and internationally
• Ability to move freely around a facility including the warehouse production floor and office areas
• Walking and standing for extended periods often on concrete or uneven surfaces
• Moving and positioning materials or equipment as needed
