Receives and answers telephone and walkin inquiries to provide technical responses to the general public circuit clerks law enforcement agencies states attorneys and insurance companies to explain statutory requirements and resolve specific problem cases. Reviews and analyzes the accuracy of mandatory insurance related records files and documents to determine the compliance with mandatory vehicle insurance law and the eligibility of the reinstatement of suspended registration privilege.
Performs complex research analyzes and approves evidence of insurance provided by vehicle owners and/or insurance companies. The documents analyzed can include declaration page insurance ID cards insurance policy including commercial policies SR22 documentation from insurance company and correspondence from insurance company. Verifies proper reinstatement fee; makes determination to authorize reinstatement of a suspended registration; may perform online entry to update the mandatory insurance and registration computer files to remove or add suspensions. All facility reinstatement work is sent to our office for review of accuracy and to complete the file.
Research registration title mandatory insurance insurance company and drivers license computer files to obtain missing or corrected information required for appropriate processing of court documents; contacts states attorneys office and county clerks offices to retrieve missing information received from courts. Initiates letter to return documents to courts when necessary. Contacts law enforcement agencies to determine status of confiscated license plates. Maintains statistical reports on daily activities compiles weekly monthly and yearly reports for supervisors review.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school andone year of responsible clerical experience dealing with laws rules or regulations in a public or private organization.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Requires working knowledge of applicable portions of Chapters 3 6 7 and/or 11 of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
Requires working knowledge of business English and composition.
Requires working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Requires working knowledge of the drivers license examination procedures and Administrative Hearings Department procedures.
Requires working knowledge of insurance principles and terminology.
Requires ability to exercise independent judgment in making decisions in accordance with applicable laws and to apply proper procedures.
Requires ability to analyze difficult cases and render decisions concerning the denial or reinstatement of driving or vehicle registration privileges.
Requires ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Requires ability to deal tactfully with the public.
Requires ability to maintain a satisfactory working relationship with other employees.
Requires the ability to fluently speak read translate and write in Spanish to serve the Spanish speaking community.
Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
