Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision teaches at least four sections ofperforming arts (theater musical theater actingtheater tech stagecraft) or some combination as assigned. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with othermembersof the faculty and staff. Serves as aMiddleSchool advisor and activelyparticipatesin the life of the school outside of classroom teaching responsibilities.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teachesfourclasses or the equivalent per semester as assigned according to the needs of theschool. This might include cross-divisional teaching in the Upper School
Co-teaches one intensive class
As a part of their teaching load directs one musical production and one straight play per year which includesafter-schoolrehearsals
Advisesa group of1012Middle Schoolstudents
Activelyparticipatesin the life of the school outside theclassroom
Vigorously engages in their own professionaldevelopment
Establishes and cultivates community relations bymaintainingopen dialogue withallthe schoolsconstituencies
Is familiar with andcomplies withall policies and regulations as put forth in the schoolsdocuments
Since safety and security are everyones responsibility takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students faculty staff equipmentmaterialsandfacilities
Performs other duties asassigned
Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree inTheater Drama Theater Tech or a related field from a four-year college or universityrequired
Masters degree in a related field or education stronglypreferred
3 to 5 years of successful teaching experience in a secondary school environmentpreferred
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Competence in the content area and pedagogy formiddleschool
Demonstrated experiencedirectingtheater and musical theaterproductions
Experience with operating Audioand Visualequipment
Good understanding of the developmental needs ofmiddleschool students
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students andprogram
Energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself tohighexpectations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with students from diversebackgrounds
Ability to create an active learning environment that supports understandingpassionand creativity instudents
Ability to prepare lessons to appeal to a variety of learning stylesneedsandaccommodations
Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in theclassroom
Deep interest in being part of a community as a colleague and grade-level teammember
Experience being part of a curricular and co-curricular teampreferred
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty andstaff
