Description

Marcus Autism Center Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine are conducting a search for an outstanding BCBA-D with specialization in behavior analysis to provide clinical care oversight and support in one of Marcus specialty treatment clinics that serve children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Marcus delivers an array of programs and services within three different treatment clinics that each target specific challenges associated with an ASD diagnosis (i.e. Severe Behavior Skill Acquisition and Feeding). Each treatment clinic offers intensive daily services as well as less-intensive caregiver-mediated interventions. All treatment programs emphasize caregiver training and the development of socially valid interventions. Marcus is seeking individuals who are interested in providing a high level of clinical care and who are interested in contributing to innovative assessment treatment and research activities.

The BCBA-D will join a multidisciplinary treatment team that may include professionals from nursing psychiatry speech-language pathology occupational therapy and/or care coordination. Intervention across all treatment clinics focuses on the use of applied behavior analysis in designing assessment and treatment protocols. This position supports a clinical caseload that includes case management for individual clients conducting assessments and supervision and mentorship of trainees. There will also be opportunities for independent and/or collaborative research contributing to a research team that has several ongoing clinical trials epidemiological studies and single-case design studies underway.

Successful candidates will be well-trained and should possess a PhD and be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral level (BCBA-D). Ideal candidates will have clinical training/background in applied behavior analysis and psychology with experience in the assessment and treatment of challenges related to an ASD diagnosis such as challenging behavior skill acquisition and/or feeding disorders. Faculty affiliation or appointment in the Emory University Pediatrics Institute is possible depending on qualifications of the candidate.

Required Qualifications

  • BCBA
  • Four years or more of experience in direct assessment and care of pediatric patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
  • Supervisory training for BCBAs supervising RBTs and at least two years of experience providing staff supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BCBA-D
  • Completion of postdoctoral fellowship in the area severe behavior problems skill acquisition or feeding disorders in the autistic population.
  • Experience in providing family or caregiver training.
  • Experience in conducting and disseminating research.

Education

  • Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Psychology

Certification Summary

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Four years or more of experience in direct assessment and care of pediatric patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides effective delivery of behavior-analytic services appropriate to the clients specific needs and severity level of disability or impairment. This includes appropriate assessment and treatment as well as making modifications for special population(s).
  • Develops and successfully implements behavioral assessment and treatment plans that support established program and caregiver goals.
  • Completes daily treatment notes and weekly/monthly behavioral assessment reports following established BACB standards.
  • Regularly communicates with caregivers effectively to ensure understanding regarding client progress and other related barriers to intervention and ensures appropriate training of successful behavioral intervention into home and community environments.
  • Demonstrates and practices high standards of clinical care that is both culturally sensitive and family centered.
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
  • Completes discharge and follow up plans according to departmental standards including liaison services to patients local school systems to assist with school re-entry or other services when applicable.
  • Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
  • Includes family/caregiver participation in all phases of the patients behavior-analytic program.
  • Evaluates patient and family psychosocial needs and provides appropriate direction to the team to meet these needs.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement meeting required continuing education standards.
  • Provides clinical supervision to fellows interns students RBTs and Masters-level BCBAs as assigned.
  • Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
  • Integrates infection control and body substance precautions patient safety body mechanics and knowledge of growth and development including referral to outside agencies as appropriate.
