This position will be staffed as an Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) Responder. The work will involve operation of an IMAP vehicle traffic control deployments route surveillance incident response removal of disabled and abandoned vehicles incident/congestion management and performing routine motorist assistance duties and debris removal to facilitate traffic flow and minimize congestion. This position also is responsible for communicating via two-way radio with the TMC dispatch as well as other first responder agencies for appropriate coordination as needed. Employees in this class do not supervise but can function as lead workers and/or provide on-the-job training. Additionally employees will need to successfully pass both classroom training related to safety IMAP and traffic management operations and a field assessment review.
This role requires the ability to work independently think critically prioritize and control situations and make decisions quickly under extreme pressure or in a hazardous environment.
This role requires the ability to perform routine tasks to move or lift heavy objects to work in a variety of weather conditions including rain snow hear and ice and to apply all computer applications require to perform the job including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) SAP (timesheets) Outlook (email) Excel (spreadsheets) Word and any other laptop applications as necessary (incident reports logs). In addition the responder must have the ability to work outside of normal shift hours in the event of larger after-hours incidents or incidents that extend beyond normal working hours and to skillfully maneuver IMAP vehicles in all weather and traffic conditions while communicating with other units and response partners.
This role requires the ability to be agile enough to respond and move quickly around fast-moving vehicles unassisted to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted to walk long distance multiple times throughout the day and to change a tire unassisted.
Related experience will be given for experience in the following areas which is documented on the application: a) emergency response work; b) medical services; c) protective services in law enforcement/fire/inspection/arson/correctional/security; d) highway/bridge maintenance or construction; e) driving motor vehicle for business/government; f) automotive/maintenance towing industry and/or repair. The applicant is required to have the following before operating as a responder:
Completion of IMAP Driver Training (on the job training)
Current NCDOT IMAP Certification
Ability to work independently think critically make decisions under extreme pressure or in a hazardous environment. Working knowledge of fire safety small hand tools minor mechanical repairs traffic control devices two-way radio systems dynamics of traffic control implementation Ability to operate and maintain an IMAP truck.
Ability to communicate with other units and response partners. Requires strong communication skills and aptitude for training incoming responders.
All members shall maintain a neat well-groomed appearance while on duty. Attention to personal hygiene is a requisite when in uniform. These procedures regulations and policies are intended to promote the professional image expected by the department and to encourage good health for consistently optimum job performance while increasing public confidence. Safety-toe shoes are required. Valid Drivers License preferred.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC05- $31688.00- $55453.00
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Working knowledge of fire safety (including the ability to operate a fire extinguisher).
- Experienced in minor mechanical repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a utility truck with winch and traffic control devices.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems and phone communication.
- Knowledge of dynamics of traffic control implementation based on roadway features highway geometry and weather conditions.
Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum Education and Experience of Requirement:
High School or General Education Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements: Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the hire date.
