Job Summary

HMS VICTORY Whole Ship Coordinator/Senior Rates Mess President.


HMS VICTORY is the oldest commissioned warship in the world. She has a dual role as the Flagship to the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff and as a living museum to the Georgian Navy. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelsons Flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. She is situated in a Tier 1 public arena in His Majestys Naval Base Portsmouth and is one of the countries most loved visitor attractions.

The Whole Ship Coordinator plays a vital role as the President of the Senior Rates Mess responsible for all military sponsored events tours and functions in accordance with the operating agreement with the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

HMS VICTORY presents a unique opportunity which is not encountered in any operational platform; therefore you will need to be a critical thinker with a flexible approach. This position requires you to work as a member of a motivated valued and respected team.

PURPOSES


Primary Purpose.

To organise and coordinate ship routines to for all military sponsored events tours and functions to meet Service requirements.

Secondary Purpose.

To ensure the efficient running of Gangway routines and upkeep of all associateddocumentation and logs.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The post holder is accountable to the Executive Officer for their Primary Purpose and the Commanding Officer for their secondary purpose.

AUTHORITY

  • The WSC has authority over all gangway staff and daywork hands.
  • As WSC you will hold functional authority over all visitors guests and personnel attending the ship for private official or social functions.

TASKS

The post holder is to carry out the following tasks:

  • To assist the management team in all aspects of support to whole ship functions both ceremonial and social including those directed/hosted by the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
  • To manage the employment of additional personnel supplied by Flotilla staff and Naval Base units as requested.
  • To ensure a system is in place to enhance the training & development of subordinates and to meet the needs of individuals and teams.
  • To develop manage update and record training methods and drills employed by HMS VICTORY.
  • Carry out and record weekly training of Quartermasters and Boatswains Mates in accordance with the training log.
  • To act as the Bar Manager for the Senior Rates Mess ensuring all stock is ordered and delivered as required whilst ensuring all accountancy and audits are up to date.
  • To act as duty bar person for all official functions in the Senior Rates Mess. This is a volunteer role and is detailed in a separate roster.
  • To conduct private tours of HMS VICTORY for visiting FlagOfficers their guests and other VIP tours as directed by the Executive Officer.
  • To regulate the Ships Company as guided by the relevant sections of QRRN(d) 3421 and BR3 Vol advise the Command on all Ceremonial requirements and administer appropriate signals.
  • To act as Assistant Unit Security Officer.
  • To act as Divisional Officer for all Junior Rates.
  • To act as Defence Information Technology Security Officer (DITSO).
  • To co-ordinate the running of the social bookings held within the Senior Rates Mess (8 per month maximum).
  • To attend all Dockyard Management Team Meetings with the NMRN as scheduled in the ships diary.
  • To act as MTO.
  • To act as Care Assessment Plan (CAP) Lead on VRMIS.

ESTABLISHMENT DUTIES

The post holder will carry out the following Establishment Duties:

It must be noted this is a daywork position Monday to Friday and weekends as ordered by the Executive Officer.
