Job Duties
Key Responsibilities
Advising & Coaching
Develop individualized student success and degree completion plans.
Provide proactive advising in areas such as course selection academic planning study skills and time management.
Monitor academic progress identify early-warning signs and implement intervention strategies.
Connect students with campus resources including tutoring supplemental instruction and wellness services.
Transfer Pathway Coordination
Guide students through the transition from community colleges (e.g. NOVA TCC) into NSUs Passport Program.
Facilitate transfer credit evaluations pathway planning and pre-transfer readiness workshops.
Collaborate with community college partners and NSU faculty to align curricula and reduce credit loss.
Track transfer cohorts and provide ongoing support during the first year of enrollment.
Student Engagement & Support
Deliver workshops and group sessions on topics such as financial literacy navigating campus resources and career readiness.
Refer students to experiential learning opportunities (research internships study abroad).
Support mentorship networks by helping connect students with faculty peer and alumni mentors.
Coordinate HIPS and experimental learning
Data & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of student interactions in advising systems.
Track outcomes related to persistence retention and degree progress.
Contribute to reports for SCHEV and internal stakeholders on student impact and barriers.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to effectively plan organize and assess programs and events
Education and experience in higher education counseling advising or a related field.
Working knowledge of retention initiatives and practices
Effective interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with and interact effectively with diverse groups of students faculty and staff.
Demonstrated computer skills e.g. the ability to conduct internet research and word processing and utilize database software.
Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position including the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with initiative.
Additional Considerations
Masters degree and three to five years of experience in academic advising student success transfer initiatives or program coordination in a college or university setting
