POSITION PURPOSE:
This positions responsibilities are to provide a variety of secretarial support in a school office including significant interaction with students staff parents and the public; to provide a variety of secretarial support to a high school/middle school counseling/guidance office including significant interaction with students staff parents and the public.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
Provides secretarial support to a school office and school counseling office performs skilled word processing data entry and typing.
Answers telephones and assists visitors; provides a variety of customer service and public relations to staff students parents and community administrators substitutes other agencies and the community; answers informational inquiries.
Maintains a variety of records and gathers information for reports.
Maintains and processes a variety of counseling records and files such as student files and college applications.
Schedules and coordinates counseling office activities such as parent and student conferences.
Assists Office Manager and building administrators with scheduling and coordinating meetings and activities.
Provides back-up and peak-load assistance to office staff; may assist in health clinic and with short periods of student supervision in various settings as assigned.
Trains and monitors student assistants.
Recruits and supervises parent volunteers.
Cares for ill or injured students in health clinic in absence of nurse: dispenses medications according to procedures maintains clinic log calls parents.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to and is directly supervised by building administrator; receives direction from school counselors and Office Manager..
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE(positions in this class typically require):
Required:
High school graduation or equivalent and one year of office secretarial experience preferably in a customer service or school setting;
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS(positions in this class typically require):
Valid First Aid and CPR Certification if assigned to health clinic
KNOWLEDGE(position requirements at entry):
A variety of office procedures.
A variety of computer software applications.
Customer service techniques.
Standard English usage spelling and grammar.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.t.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
AISP pay range D $ 31.44 to $33.39/hr. (starting wage is $ 31.44/hr.)37.5hours per week (M T TH and F 7:30am to 3:45pm and W 7:30am to 2:30pm) for a 197-day annual assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Medical dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
