Job Description: Senior OT-IT Convergence Solution Architect
Position Overview
The Senior OT-IT Convergence Solution Architect is a key leadership role focused on designing implementing and optimizing integrated Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) infrastructures. This position emphasizes ensuring robust secure and scalable OT-IT interoperability to support industrial automation real-time insights and enterprise-wide digital transformation. The architect brings a holistic perspective by aligning OT systems with IT infrastructure including networking cloud cybersecurity and data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Integrated Solution Design
- Design and implement architectures that integrate OT systems (SCADA DCS PLCs MES) with IT infrastructure (networking cloud platforms and enterprise systems).
- Define standards and frameworks for seamless data flow between OT and IT environments while ensuring low-latency performance and high reliability.
- Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to design converged networks edge-to-cloud solutions and hybrid environments.
2. IT Infrastructure Enablement for OT Systems
- Ensure IT infrastructure (e.g. servers storage virtual environments) can support high-availability OT applications.
- Design robust and scalable networks with IT-OT segmentation VLANs and firewalls to ensure secure and efficient operations.
- Leverage IT tools like SD-WAN IoT gateways and industrial edge computing to bridge OT-IT gaps.
3. Cybersecurity Across OT and IT Layers
- Develop cybersecurity strategies for OT-IT convergence addressing vulnerabilities in industrial control systems and IT networks.
- Implement security measures like micro segmentation identity access management and encrypted communications.
- Ensure compliance with standards like NIST IEC 62443 ISO 27001 and GDPR.
4. Networking and Communication Protocols
- Design networks that facilitate seamless communication across OT and IT layers integrating protocols like OPC UA MQTT PROFINET and REST APIs.
- Define standards for connectivity between legacy OT systems and modern IT environments.
- Work with network teams to implement robust QoS redundancy and monitoring for OT-IT networks.
5. Strategic Roadmap Development
- Define and deliver an OT-IT convergence roadmap aligned with business and operational objectives.
- Identify and implement best practices for integrating IT governance into OT environments.
- Lead modernization initiatives for legacy systems to ensure compatibility with IT infrastructures and emerging technologies.
6. Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead cross-functional teams including IT infrastructure operations and engineering in deploying converged solutions.
- Act as the primary interface between OT engineers and IT teams ensuring alignment in objectives and execution.
- Present technical strategies and project outcomes to senior management and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
1. Education & Experience
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering Computer Science IT or related fields.
- 15 years of experience in Industrial systems and IT infrastructure hands on experience of OT-IT integration projects.
- Proven track record in industries such as manufacturing energy utilities transportation or process automation.
2. Technical Skills
- Expertise in IT infrastructure: enterprise networking data centers virtualization and cloud computing.
- Deep understanding of OT systems including SCADA MES PLCs and ICS.
- Proficiency in OT-IT communication protocols (OPC UA MQTT Modbus REST APIs).
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and tools (firewalls IDS/IPS SIEM and endpoint security).
3. Certifications
- IT certifications (e.g. AWS/Azure Solutions Architect Cisco CCNP VMware Certified Professional).
- OT certifications (e.g. IEC 62443 ISA or industry-specific certifications).
- PMP or Agile certifications (preferred).
4. Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a focus on innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage complex projects and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
