SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Speech Language Pathologist provide assessments and remediations for students identified with a need for special services in the areas of language speech voice and fluency. These services are designed to help students meet their educational goals and to decrease the effects of the handicapping condition on the students ability to participate in the educational process in cooperation with other staff members and parents.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct and interpret informal and formal assessments of appropriate students identified and referred for assessment
  • Plan and implement educationally relevant therapy programs for eligible students. Participate in the development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) in conjunction with school personnel and parents.
  • Monitor and attend to behavior of students during SLP Therapy services.
  • Coordinate SLP services with those of other health and educational personnel and provide consultative services.
  • Participate in varied service delivery models (i.e. individual group consultative) in cooperation with the student other school personnel and the students family.
  • Evaluates students in terms of planned goals revises intervention strategies as a result of the evaluation and provides students with feedback on their progress.
  • Organizes and schedules assigned caseload at varied locations.
  • Request/recommend from the Special Education Department the basic SLP equipment and supplies needed.
  • Continue professional educational development and participate in in-service activities for staff and support personnel.
  • Participate in policy formulation as it relates to SLP services. Maintain records and submit reports as required by law and district process and procedure.
  • Maintain clean utilize and transport SLP equipment used for students therapy.
  • Maintain accurate service logs within the District-designated service logging system.
  • Adhere to special education compliance requirements under state and federal law.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience


Bachelors degree from an accredited 4-year college

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to function as a team member with staff and parents in the development of student IEPs.
  • Ability to communicate and interact positively with all types of disabled students professional associates and patrons of the school district.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with district staff and administrators students parents or guardians outside agencies community groups and the public in a multicultural community.
  • Knowledge of educational versus medical concerns needing assistance from SLP.
  • Knowledge of Special Education service delivery models.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations from programs providing services to children with handicapping conditions and Clover Park School District policies.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain/clean SLP equipment.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain required and adequate student and office records.
  • Ability to follow established guidelines to supervise Assistants when appropriate.
  • Ability to regularly lift and push/pull 40 pounds and occasionally lift 60 pounds.
  • Ability to be flexible in regards to scheduling school selections and assignments.
  • Ability to organize workload in two or more work locations on a daily basis.

Certification and Licenses

  • Valid Washington Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certificate with Speech and Language Pathologist endorsement
  • Valid Washington State Drivers License.
  • Must be able to obtain access to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in accordance with REAL ID Act.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Minimum of one-year experience working with youth aged 3 to 21.
  • Working knowledge of computer software.
  • Current First Aid/CPR
  • Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • American Speech and Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • Department of Health Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a regular office and school environments. Travel to and between school sites is necessary. Must be able to use fingers hands and arms and to listen carefully and focus while filtering out normal office noise. The ability to speak and see clearly; sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; push/pull 40 pounds and occasionally lift 60 pounds; and bend twist walk and reach requiring ordinary physical effort are all required. Expected to attend evening meetings. Exposure to normal levels of office dust VDT screens and office machines and their required chemicals are part of the job.

*Clover Park School District total possible pay consists of base salary plus the following:

Building Centered Responsibility - 5 days

District Centered Responsibility - 2.5 days

Event Responsibility - 1 day

Attendance required for compensation of responsibility pay (building-centered district-centered and event).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employees responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical dental vision long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.
