About the Role:
The Youth on Track Caseworker is responsible for delivering culturally attuned and focused case management services to Aboriginal young people aged 10 to 17. This role is pivotal in supporting young people through their interactions with the justice system facilitating community reintegration and addressing the unique barriers that our young people may encounter.
The key objectives of the role include:
- Deliver intensive case management support to young people and their families.
- Conduct comprehensive culturally sensitive assessments to understand clients needs risks and strengths.
- Develop tailored case management plans reflective of Aboriginal culture and values monitor progress and adjust plans as needed.
- Organise and provide a range of evidence based interventions.
- Forge strong relationships with Aboriginal young people their families and community elders while collaborating with judicial and legal stakeholders.
- Provide an evidence-informed family intervention to support the family of young offenders to reduce the young persons contact with police and improve the young persons relationship with their family or carers.
- Increase engagement with education employment and their community.
- Work with NSW Police local schools community groups and other stakeholders to locate and engage young people and their families to reduce the risk of a young person coming into contact with police and law enforcement.
- Act as the principal liaison among young clients court officials legal representatives NSW Youth Justice NSW Department of Education health services and other support agencies.
- Monitor compliance with court directives and probation ensuring engagement with culturally appropriate programs.
- Utilise culturally based conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills to maintain harmony and positive outcomes.
- Link clients to Aboriginal-centric educational vocational and life skills resources as well as community supports and services.
Essential Criteria:
- Aboriginality (desirable)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Social Work Counselling Psychology Allied Health or related fields with preference for knowledge in Aboriginal health (desirable but not essential)
- Experience in case management particularly with Aboriginal youth or those in contact with the justice system.
- Knowledge of the juvenile justice process and Aboriginal legal and cultural practices
- Advanced communication skills able to convey complex information respectfully and clearly
- Strong organisational and time management abilities to oversee diverse caseloads.
- In-depth knowledge of and access to Aboriginal community resources and networks.
- Culturally-responsive approach that respects and incorporates traditional practices
- A passion for restorative practices and empowering Aboriginal young people
- Ability to effectively advocate within cultural frameworks.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing conditions and community needs.
- Understanding of and experience implementing Trauma Informed practice.
- Clear Working with Children Check Working with Vulnerable People Registration and National Police History Check
- Current Drivers Licence
