Training Programme Deck Trainee, Engine Trainee &, Catering Trainee

JOB PURPOSE

• To develop and train deck engine and catering ratings / trainees who holds the necessary basic STCW course certificates valid SAMSA seagoing medical (without restrictions) and provide the required sea time to obtain the first STCW Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) issued by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
  
  

FUNCTION

• The trainee is responsible for applying him/herself to all the study materials practical training and theoretical instruction he/she will be exposed to whilst on board the vessel. This includes any tasks that are assigned to the trainee by the designated training officer.
• The trainee shall always conduct him/herself in a professional and courteous manner and shall comply with all onboard operating procedures reasonable orders and requests of his/her superiors and fellow crewmembers.
• The trainee shall be solely responsible for the completion of all necessary onboard training tasks and projects as contained in the approved Onboard Training Record Book for the duration of the training agreement. The training officer is there to guide and assist the trainee.

The ideal candidate

REQUIREMENTS

• Be a South African citizen and holds a valid passport / ID document
• Holds valid STCW course attendance certificates in the following: -
  1. Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting STCW Section A-VI/1-2
  2. Medical First Aid (including Elementary First Aid) STCW Code A-VI/4-1 & STCW Code A-VI/1-3
  3. Personal Survival and Social Responsibility STCW Code A-VI/1-4
  4. Personal Survival Techniques STCW Code A-VI/1-1
• Holds a valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (without restrictions or limitations).
• Holds no SAMSA Certificate of Proficiency (CoP)
• Not be older than 28 years of age
• Is fluent in written and spoken command of the English language.
• Able to follow Company instructions and procedures
• Will comply to strict company and industry SHEQ standards and working habits.
• Adhere to the company confidentiality requirement and comply with a strict zero tolerance Alcohol & Drug Policy
