Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.
Maintenance
Maintains low and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems at the NCAR Wyoming Supercomputing Center including the following:
Standby generators
Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS)
Variable frequency drives
Low and medium voltage transformers
Low and medium voltage switchgear
Electrical distribution throughout the facility
Line and low-voltage control systems
Monitors maintains and assists with the operation of building control and monitoring systems including but not limited to: mechanical control systems electrical power monitoring systems building security and surveillance systems and life safety systems. Performs testing procedures using industry-standard test and measurement equipment. Maintains facility fire alarm systems and associated components. Observes all UCAR safety requirements such as confined space hot work permits standard electrical safety and arc flash requirements.
Maintains and alters limited networking infrastructure systems including Copper Ethernet Fiber Optic and two-wire networks used for communication transfer as related to data center facility infrastructure.
Participates in shift rotation of plant operations. Performs shift work in response to on-call policy and as scheduled for maintenance shutdowns. Assists other disciplines as needed.
Performs Scheduled Unscheduled and Emergency Repairs on Building Electrical Systems.
Repairs those building electrical systems listed in the maintenance duties section above. Interprets building monitoring system alarms and takes appropriate corrective actions under established procedures. Assumes the duties of on-call electrician on a scheduled calendar basis. Rotates to various shifts based on facility and mission needs. Coverage hours are typically 12 - 14 hours per day with two 10 hour overlapping shifts. Management reserves the right to change shift schedules.
Computer Room / Facility Management
Assists withmaintaining the database of equipment inventory for the computer center facility support systems. Independently tracks equipment in a constantly changing environment. Interacts closely with the UCAR property administrator and individual laboratory DPA regarding the removal of old equipment installation of new equipment and property audits.
Participates in the planning for new computer equipment installation. Works with the facilities team to install required infrastructure or assist with oversight of subcontractors depending on scope of work and direction.
Administrative
Maintains proper documentation. Records times worked materials used work performed maintenance activities and problems identified using the facilities maintenance management computer system(s). Maintains other required records including time cards. Maintains records and logs as needed to comply with all state local and federal regulations relating to facilities operations.
Follows all UCAR and department policies. Maintains a safe neat and orderly work area at all times. Maintains and safeguards all assigned tools and equipment. Maintains construction and maintenance documentation including updating plans and redlining drawings to reflect changes or as-built conditions.

Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; and at least three years of commercial or industrial experience as a Journeyman Electrician; and a valid Wyoming State Journeyman Electricians License.
We can accept a Journey-level or Masters electrical license.
Reciprocal applicants must have obtained their license by examination with a minimum score (70% for Journeyman 75% for Master)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Required/Desired)
Ability to read and understand blueprints wiring schematics and other construction documents.
Willingness and ability to perform shift work respond to after-hours emergency calls work with other crafts and work in environments out of normal duties as needed.
Ability to work in a safe manner and produce craftsman-like results.
Demonstrated skill in reading and comprehending manufacturers equipment manuals and in clearly documenting descriptions of equipment malfunctions and work performed.
Demonstrated skill in developing comprehending and following Method of Procedure (MOP) and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents
Demonstrated skill in understanding and acting on verbal and written instructions.
Demonstrated skill in reading and comprehending machinery diagrams building layouts and operations flow charts.
Ability to carry fifty (50) pounds twenty (20) feet.
Ability to work on scaffolds and climb ladders up to forty (40) feet.
Skill in the repair of controls and fire alarm systems.
Familiarity with low and medium-voltage distribution equipment.
Knowledge of standard electrical maintenance procedures for commercial and semi-industrial facilities.
Possession of a valid government-issued drivers license (depending on residence location) and a driving record that complies with UCARs liability insurance requirements.
Skill in using computers and software applications such as MS Office Google OS building automation PLC and/or other similar control systems.
Demonstrated skill in lock-out / tag-out techniques specific to electrical system repairs.
Ability to properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely under higher temperature conditions that may occur when wearing the required layers of protective equipment.
Demonstrated skill in the understanding troubleshooting and responding to operational digital control issues related to life safety and mission-critical facility systems/equipment.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing and to work effectively as a member of a maintenance operations team.
Ability to interact professionally with staff and respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner minimizing disruption to facility operations.
DESIRED (but not required):
Experience with AutoCAD and electronic equipment installation best practices.
Experience with CAT6A and Fiber Optic cabling and termination
