The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service research policy program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHRs CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. IHRs mission since our founding in 1989 has been to develop and support a comprehensive continuum of care for families individuals youth and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol tobacco and other drug use violence/trauma mental health challenges and other health issues while advancing principles of health equity and social justice. Our work is focused on addressing and eradicating inequities in our health care economic and justice systems especially as they disproportionately affect women and people of color. We are committed to providing services and creating communities that mitigate the effects of substance use mental illness and trauma.

Summary Statement:

IHRs Adult Trauma Team offers comprehensive technical assistance training consultation and postvention services to help organizations integrate trauma-responsive best practices into their policies procedures and service delivery. Our team uses a relational trauma-responsive approach to collaborate closely with providers tailoring support to each organizations unique needs and context. We work closely with the Bureau of Substance Addiction Service and a wide variety of providers across the state and across entire continuum of care.

Role Description:

We are seeking a graduate student who can help support our team in delivering these services in a manner consistent with our dedication to trauma-responsive principles. While working with providers we are also engaged in strategic planning assessing the needs of the community as well as our training and service delivery outcomes. The ideal candidate would be familiar with conducting organizational level assessments and program evaluation activities.

The Adult Trauma Services Intern will assist the Adult Trauma Services Team with the following:

  • Assist in the planning development and delivery of statewide and program specific training.
  • Participate in program evaluation activities to measure service outcomes.
  • Provide support to team in delivering and evaluating postvention services (crisis response).
  • Participate in policy consultations with organizations engaged in trauma integration planning.
  • Participate in outreach activities to increase awareness of IHRs Adult Trauma Team services.

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:

  • First year/ second year student interested in macro public health or social work field.
  • Ability to work at the systems-levelwith a variety of organizations providing substance use disorder treatment.
  • Interested in learning about and working with a wide variety of organizations and professionals across the continuum of care.
  • Interested in or familiar with conducting program evaluation and organizational assessments.
  • Interested in learning more about substance use and trauma related disorder issues.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and take initiative.
  • Must possess polished mature communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic highly organized with fine attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word PowerPoint Excel
