Position Summary
Were seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Mechanic to join our Transportation team. Youll be responsible for keeping our fleet of trailers running safely and efficiently across multiple service centers. This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise directly impacts our operations.

What Were Looking For
- 4 years of hands-on fleet or heavy-duty trailer maintenance experience
- Thorough understanding and ability to carry out FMCSA 396.19 (Inspector Qualifications) and FMCSA 396.25 (Brake Inspector) requirements
- Completion of FMCSA DOT Annual Inspection Training (or ability to complete upon hire)
- Valid Drivers License with clean driving record
- Ability to pass Air Brake Knowledge and Skills Test for CDL
- Must be able to pass DOT Medical Examination
- Mechanical aptitude with diesel trailer systems including air brakes electrical and hydraulic systems
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel) for documentation and tracking
- Associate degree or technical school certification in diesel/automotive technology (preferred)
- Experience with fleet management software and computerized maintenance tracking systems (preferred)
- ASE certifications in truck/trailer equipment (preferred)
- CDL with air brake endorsement (preferred)
- Experience working across multiple locations or in a mobile repair capacity (preferred)
What Youll Do
Preventative Maintenance & Inspections:
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on fleet trailers across your assigned geographic service centers covering multiple states
- Conduct required DOT annual inspections on all trailers to ensure federal and state compliance
- Execute comprehensive safety inspections including brake systems lighting tires and structural integrity
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment before and after operation
- Verify all equipment meets FMCSA safety standards and regulations
Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures on trailers including brake systems air lines sensors and lighting
- Disassemble repair and reassemble components as necessary to restore equipment to safe operating condition
- Perform maintenance including lubrication sensor cleaning and replacement tire rotations and replacements valve adjustments and brake repairs
- Execute emergency roadside repairs and breakdown assistance in a safe efficient and quality manner
- Repair and maintain trailer doors landing gear suspension systems and coupling devices
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each repair performed on vehicles using company tracking systems
- Complete all necessary DOT documentation and inspection reports
- Keep files current to ensure full DOT regulatory compliance
- Manage and report on small parts inventory for your assigned region
- Track and process all repairs through company maintenance management systems
Shop & Equipment Management:
- Keep shop equipment operational by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns
- Maintain tools and equipment storing them properly and protected from the elements
- Keep work areas clean organized and hazard-free
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain the highest regard for personal safety and the safety of others

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in various conditions:
Physical Demands:
- Stand and walk constantly throughout the workday (5.5 hours daily)
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently; up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Bend reach and manually manipulate tools and parts frequently
- Climb crawl squat and kneel occasionally while accessing trailer components
- Push and pull equipment jacks and heavy parts regularly
- Maintain clear vision (near distance color peripheral and depth perception) for inspections
- Acute sense of sound to detect equipment malfunctions and hear safety alarms
- Manual dexterity and sense of touch for working with small parts and detecting issues
Work Environment:
- Primary work in shop environment with occasional outdoor work at service centers or roadside
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts vehicle traffic and heavy equipment
- Work in varying weather conditions when performing roadside repairs or traveling between locations
- Moderate to loud noise levels from power tools air compressors and shop equipment
- Occasional exposure to dust fumes and chemicals (lubricants cleaners hydraulic fluids)
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including steel-toe boots safety glasses ear protection and gloves
