Job Summary

Assistant Football Coach - Defense (Special Teams)


Knox College invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Football Coach a 12-month benefits-eligible position reporting to the Head Football Coach. Anticipated start date is January 2025.


The Assistant Football Coach will assist in advancing the mission and values of Prairie Fire Athletics by building a championship-caliber NCAA Division III program that develops student-athletes of character fosters belonging and growth and competes with purpose. This position is a vital part of our collective effort to align who we are how we lead and what results we deliver on and off the field.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Football Coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Knox College Football Program with a primary focus on the defense and potentially special teams (preferred) including but not limited to:

  • Assist in coaching and developing a competitive values-based football program aligned with Prairie Fire Athletics.

  • Coach a defensive position group withexperience coaching defensive line and/or linebackers required; contribute to defensive game planning and player development.

  • Support recruiting retention and mentoring of student-athletes who demonstrate academic commitment integrity and competitive excellence.

  • Assist with practice planning game preparation and team operations prioritizing student-athlete development and safety;special teams knowledge strongly preferred.

  • Uphold compliance with institutional Midwest Conference and NCAA regulations while modeling professionalism and care in all interactions.

Additional responsibilities that assist in department operations may be assigned based on the candidates strengths and may include teaching in the Sports Studies program or assisting with game operations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university

  • Collegiate football defensive coaching experience.

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects

  • An appreciation for a residential liberal arts education respect for individual differences openness to the values and opinions of others and flexibility to adapt to constant change

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more seasons experience as a defensive line or linebackers coach.

  • 1 or more seasons experience coaching special teams.

  • 1 or more seasons NCAA Football recruiting experience

  • Collegiate football playing experience.

  • Experience using a recruiting database(ie. Front Rush Jumpforward Spry)

  • Experience with social media and overall promotion of the athletics program
